Mudcats drill Tennessee

ZEBULON -- The Mudcats pounded out 18 hits Wednesday night as Carolina beat visiting Tennessee 11-4.

Kevin Randel hit his third home run of the year for the Mudcats (20-21), who trailed 3-1 early in the game but scored five times in the fourth and added four more in the sixth to pull away from the last-place Smokies (19-22).

Adam Bostic (3-2) picked up the win for Carolina.

The two teams will play again today at 7:15 p.m. at Five County Stadium.

INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE

Durham 8, Louisville 2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Elijah Dukes went 4-for-4 and scored three runs to lead the Durham Bulls to an 8-2 win over the Louisville Bats in International League play on Wednesday.

B.J. Upton and Kevin Witt added three hits apiece for the Bulls, who scored four runs in the top of the first to take command.

Chris Seddon allowed two runs in six innings to improve to 4-3 on the year.

Matt Kata and Cody Ross both had two hits for Louisville, which lost for the 12th time in its last 14 games.

Starting pitcher Josh Hall took the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits in five innings to fall to 1-3.

Knights 8, Indians 4

INDIANAPOLIS -- Casey Rogowski hit a three-run homer and Ernie Young and Tim Hummel added solo home runs to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 8-4 victory Wednesday over the Indianapolis Indians.

Young went 4-for-5 for the game as the Knights won their seventh straight game.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Yurendell de Caster and Jason Alfaro, but Knights starter Stephen Randolph (4-0) earned the win by not giving up another run until Alfaro hit a solo homer in the sixth inning.

Randolph struck out seven while giving up seven hits in six innings.

Indians starter Sean Burnett (2-3) took the loss as he gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks in four innings.
