Crowe delivers game-winning, 10th-inning RBI single

KINSTON -- Trevor Crowe's RBI single with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Matt Whitney and gave the K-Tribe an 8-7 win Sunday afternoon at Grainger Stadium.

The K-Tribe pushed the game to extra innings in the bottom of the ninth, when a Brian Barton fly ball to shallow center field, found its way between three Frederick players and scored Argenis Reyes and Crowe, knotting the game up at seven.

Barton went 2-for-5 on the day, extending his hitting streak to 22 games and tying Jose Amador of the Triple-A Mexican League for the longest hitting streak in the minor leagues this season.

It was a day of comebacks for the K-Tribe as a two run homer by Ryan Goleski, his fifth of the season, put Kinston up 4-3 in the sixth inning.

A four-run Frederick eighth inning put the Keys up 7-4, but a Stephen Head solo home run in the seventh cut the lead to two. Barton's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth tied it at seven.

Ryan Knippschild (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Richard Salazar (0-2) took the loss for the Keys.

It was the K-Tribe's ninth series win of the season. Kinston is now 24-11, with the best record in the Carolina League and 6 1/2 games ahead of second place Myrtle Beach and Winston-Salem in the Southern Division.

The K-Tribe opens a three day, four-game series with Potomac today at 7 p.m. at Grainger Stadium.

The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, before finishing up with a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday. Joe Ness takes the mound today for Kinston.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE

Mudcats 2, Lookouts 1, ppd.

ZEBULON -- Sunday's game between the Carolina Mudcats and Chattanooga Lookouts was suspended by rain.

The Mudcats were leading 2-1 after three innings when a second rain delay forced the suspension. The game will be resumed today at 5:30 p.m., then followed by a seven-inning nightcap.

INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE

Indians 8, Bulls 1

INDIANAPOLIS -- Yurendell DeCaster homered and the Bulls committed four errors, including two that led to Indians runs, as Indianapolis beat Durham 8-1 Sunday in the International League.

Rich Thompson scored Indianapolis' first run on a fielding error in the first. Durham (19-17), tied it at 1-1 in the top of the second when Elijah Dukes scored on a Shawn Riggans sacrifice fly.

But the Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the inning after Brian Stokes (2-1) issued a two-out walk. Indianapolis scored two runs on RBI doubles by Thompson and Paul Chiaffredo and also scored runs on a Raul Gonzalez RBI single and another Durham error.

Indianapolis closed out the scoring in the eighth on DeCaster's homer and RBI singles by Rajai Davis and Mike Edwards.

The Indians (21-15) stole six bases during the contest and finished with nine hits and no errors. The Bulls had seven hits against the Indians.

Brandon Duckworth (5-2) earned the win for the Indians.

Stokes took the loss for Durham.
