ZEBULON -- For the second straight game, the Carolina Mudcats established a season high in runs, reaching double figures for the first time in defeating the Mobile BayBears 10-4 on Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.

The Mudcats (11-16) scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to break open a one-run game, highlighted by a two-run single by Ryan Bear, three walks from reliever Leo Rosales, and a pair of Mobile (9-17) errors.

Carolina scored eight runs in a win over Mobile on Tuesday night, setting a season high. The Mudcats have beaten the BayBears five straight games after losing the first two games of the season series.

Carolina rallied from a 4-2 deficit, tying the game in the fifth against Cesar Carillo thanks to a home run by Jamie Athas and a single from Alejandro DeAza, who drove in pinch-hitter Kevin Randel from third who had tripled.

Jonathan Aceves hit his first homer of the season on Carillo's first pitch of the sixth to put Carolina ahead 5-4.

The Mudcats trailed 1-0 after a half inning, but pushed across two to gain a short-lived lead. Lee Mitchell singled in DeAza, then Jose Campusano scored from third on a groundout by Bear.

Anibal Sanchez worked five innings, allowing two earned runs of the four which scored, but threw three scoreless innings to complete his outing. Christopher Young (2-1) notched the win with one shutout inning, and after Kevin Cave pitched one frame, Taylor Tankersley earned his third professional save throwing two hitless frames.

The Mudcats remain seven games behind first place Chattanooga in the North, and send James Russ (2-1, 1.78) to the mound today at 7:15 p.m.
