SELMA -- Princeton's Scott Woodard fired a 76 to claim medalist honors in the final Class 1-A Carolina Conference match of the season on Wednesday at the Cardinal Country Club.

The Bulldogs won the match with a 328, while North Johnston finished second at 328. Spring Creek (340), Rosewood (353) and Ayden-Grifton (372) rounded out the team scoring.

Josh Barefoot (83), Riley Boyette (84), Will Gainey (88) and George Mitchell (96) contributed to the Bulldogs' winning score.

Daniel Chewning paced Spring Creek with a 73, while Stephen Warren (78), Blake Rousay (89) and Pat Wilkens (100) also competed for the Gators.

Shane Ogburn's 79 led Rosewood as Joey Wagner (87), Gentry Minchew (93), Bradley Hill (94) and Stephen Ash (106) added to the Eagles' tally.

Princeton, North Johnston and Ayden-Grifton qualified as teams for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A East Regional on May 8 at Ayden Golf and Country Club. Warren, Wilkens, Chewning and Ogburn qualified as individuals for the regional.

Warriors suffer

non-league loss

Eastern Wayne's Walker Gourley had a team-best three hits in the Warriors' 6-1 loss at home to New Hanover in non-conference play on Wednesday at home.

Tyler Ham and John Wooten added two hits each for Eastern Wayne (10-12 overall), who concludes its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference schedule at Kinston today.

Michael Mintz endured the loss on the mound for the Warriors, yielding six runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work. Chad Sutton came on to toss three innings of scoreless relief -- striking out three against one walk.

Ben Daniel, Austin Hale and Ryan Miller paced the Wildcats at the plate, while Miller got the win in relief.

Hawks finish

unbeaten in league

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Haley Bright scored four goals and dished out one assist as the Hawks defeated Spring Creek, 9-0 -- putting the finishing touches on an undefeated season in Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference play.

North Lenoir (20-0-1 overall, 10-0 C/EPC) will travel to Washington in a non-conference contest today, before beginning the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs on May 10. The Hawks, who have lost just three league games in four years, are slated to host a wild card team in the first round.

Katie Maloney added two goals and one assist for North Lenoir, while Sara Farmer, Rachel Sasser and Ashley Stalnaker added one goal each.

Chargers

In the completion of a suspended match which started on April 26, TEACH topped Wayne Country 7-2 on Wednesday at Herman Park.

Jonathan Stutts, Dylan Cuddington, Eric Simmons and Chaz Fitzpatrick claimed singles wins for TEACH, while the tandems of Stutts-Matthew Rouse, Sam Rouse-Simmons and Cuddington-Castillo swept all three doubles matches.

David Wilson and Fred Ha claimed the lone wins for the Chargers.

Rosewood rolls

past Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Junior Courtney Hill slapped a home run and Rosewood cruised past Spring Creek 11-5 in Carolina 1-A Conference action Tuesday evening.

Hill, Aubrey Reinhard and Stephanie Rhodes each collected three hits for the Eagles. Chandra Meadows batted 2-for-4.

Rosewood (4-12) improved to 2-6 in Carolina Conference play and entertains North Duplin on Friday. Spring Creek, which plays host to North Johnston, dipped to 2-16 overall and 1-7 against conference opposition.

take Carolina title

Princeton earned six individual first-place finishes and captured one relay title in the season-ending Carolina 1-A Conference women's championship meet contest Tuesday at Rosewood.

The Bulldogs amassed 154 points in the six-team meet. Rosewood finished second with 123.5 points. North Johnston claimed third with 110 points, followed by Ayden-Grifton (62), North Duplin (59) and Spring Creek (26.5).

C.C. Sanders emerged the conference champion in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and 100 hurdles (16.4 seconds). Jan Bogle seized victories in the 100 and 200 dashes. Tiesha Williams (triple jump) and Olivia Baker (800 run) also picked up individual wins.

Princeton's 400-meter relay -- Bogle, Sanders, Williams and Kendra Atkinson -- turned in championship time of 52.3 seconds.

Rosewood's Sa'Coya Cox placed first overall in the discus (109-4) and shot put (30-5). Cox ran the anchor leg on the winning 1,600-meter relay that included Sherlita McFall, Shanita Monroe and Olivia Neal.

Erica Murray won the pole vault.

Wayne Country Day claimed its first win of the season after defeating Greenfield School, 7-2 on Wednesday at Wayne Community College.

Kobe Hood, Stoan Stewart and Brandon Davis claimed singles wins for the Chargers, while the tandems of Will Nolan-Thomas Yarboro and Davis-Stewart emerged with doubles victories.

WCDS (1-3) avenged an early-season loss to Greenfield.
