K-Tribe fails to complete series sweep

SALEM, Va. -- The Salem Avalanche salvaged the final game of a three-game series, beating Kinston 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The K-Tribe gave up three unearned runs on a season-high five errors.
Kinston started strong, with a Trevor Crowe single scoring Argenis Reyes in the first inning, giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.
With the score tied at one in the bottom of the second the error bug started to bite the Indians as Salem's Jeff Mackor reached first base on an error by Kinston third baseman Brandon Pinckney with two outs.
The next batter, Drew Sutton, hit a two-run double, putting the Avalanche up 3-1.
The error bug came back again in the fifth, as K-Tribe newcomer Ryan Knippschild had the first two batters he faced reach on errors by the K-Tribe. Neil Sellers followed with a two-RBI double making the score 5-1. Sellers would score one batter later on an RBI double by Salem's Francisco Caraballo.
Scott Lewis (0-1) absorbed his first loss of the season, giving up his first earned run of the year in the second inning. Evan Englebrook (2-0) picked up the win for the Avalanche.
The K-Tribe heads to Lynchburg, Virginia to start a four-game set with the Hillcats tonight. The Indians will send starter Jensen Lewis to the mound for the 7:05 p.m. contest.
