KINSTON -- Eastern Wayne's Natalie Taylor tallied a natural hat trick (three straight goals) in the first 13 minutes as the Warriors claimed a 6-0 win at Kinston on Wednesday.

The game was called at halftime due to inclement weather.

With the victory, Eastern Wayne (9-8-1 overall) wrapped up a share of the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference title -- finishing tied with Wilson Hunt with identical 9-1 marks in league play. Eastern Wayne and Hunt will both receive first round byes in the conference tournament and will begin play on Monday in the semifinals at Little Big Horn.

Samantha Frazer posted two goals and dished out one assist, while Kasie Edwards scored once and had two assists. Kelsey Griffith added two assists for the Warriors, who claimed their first ECC title since 2002.

Sophomore goalie Brittany Spence turned in her ninth shutout overall and eighth in conference play.

Kinston finished conference play with a 2-8 mark and will face Wilson Beddingfield in the first round of the ECC tournament on Saturday, while Charles B. Aycock will take on Southern Wayne in the other first-round matchup.

DUDLEY -- Charles B. Aycock's Margaret Connolly scored twice as the Golden Falcons rolled to a 10-0 shutout at Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

Aycock (6-11-2 overall) finished at 5-4-1 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference -- good for third place. The Falcons and Saints (0-13, 0-10 ECC), who are currently competing with only seven players, will matchup again in the first round of the conference tournament on Saturday at Eastern Wayne.

Linda Cuervo, Samantha Whitworth, Stephanie Orosco, Mariko Lydecker, Kristen Bennett, Amanda Schlaeppi, Hillary Beamon and Caitlin Richards all scored one goal each for Aycock.

Princeton claims

home win

PRINCETON -- Princeton claimed a 5-2 win at home over Spring Creek at home on Wednesday in Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference action.

Betsy Salazar and Christina Ramirez scored one goal each for the Gators, who slipped to 1-8 in conference play. Perla Lares had five saves in goal for Spring Creek, which hosts Tarboro on Monday.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-8-1 overall and 2-6 in league action heading into Monday's game at North Johnston.

Saints suffer

WILMINGTON -- Southern Wayne's David Combs had two doubles in three plate appearances as the Saints suffered a 7-0 loss at Class 4-A Wilmington Hoggard on Wednesday.

Combs and Garrett Barfield emerged the only Southern Wayne players to record hits against the Vikings' Michael Callahan, who struck out eight against one walk in a complete-game shutout.

Sterling Grice endured the loss in 31/3 innings of work for the Saints (12-8 overall), while Michael Holland came on to yield just one hit in 22/3 innings of relief work.

Southern Wayne continues Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play at home on Friday against Kinston.

Rosewood claimed a 12-4 win over Goldsboro in non-conference action on Wednesday at the Eagles' field.

Monquavis Edwards hit an inside-the-park home run for the Cougars (0-14), while Freddie Frazier added two hits.

Edwards endured the loss on the mound for Goldsboro, which hosts Greene Central on Friday in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action.

Rosewood improved to 10-8 overall heading into Friday's Carolina 1-A contest at North Johnston.

No further information was available on Wednesday's game.

Saints fall in

BEULAVILLE -- Southern Wayne's Alyssa Bradshaw had three hits and drove in the Saints' lone run in a 2-1 loss at East Duplin on Wednesday.

Morgan Davis added a double for the Saints, who slipped to 12-9 overall.

Davis also endured the loss on the mound -- tossing 32/3 innings and yielding two runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Lauren Darden came on to toss 21/3 innings of perfect relief work.

Erica Thigpen paced the Panthers at the plate, while Carly Rivenbark picked up the complete-game win.

Southern Wayne returns to action on Friday at home in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Chargers suffer

road loss

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day emerged with three singles wins, before Greenfield School swept all three doubles contests and claimed a 6-3 victory on its home courts on Tuesday.

Ross Wilson, David Wilson and Kevin Martell all won in singles for the Chargers (9-5 overall) in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference match.

Eastern Wayne's Morgan Ross and Minerva Rodriguez scored once each in the Warriors' 2-0 win on Wednesday over Kinston in their season finale.

Eastern Wayne completed its season at 5-7-2 overall and 3-1 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play -- winning the league title.

Warrior goalie Shelly Sherman had 10 saves in the win.

Charlotte Campbell won the play of the day, while Mary Morris won low gross, Nancy Satterfield took low net and Linda Cannon claimed low putts.

Northwest Blue 10, Pikeville 5 -- Ryan Faucette got the win for Northwest Blue, striking out nine against five walks. Adam Davis tossed the final two innings in relief. Faucette added two hits and drove in three runs. Jackson Hayes endured the loss for Pikeville and contributed two hits and two RBIs.
