MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition

The Northeast Athletic Association will host a free Pepsi Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition for area youth on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. at Northeast Elementary. The competition is open to the first 300 participants. Competitors will be divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition. The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group will be awarded and advance to the sectional level of competition. B.G. Darden Golf Classic

The 8th Annual B.G. Darden Golf Classic will be held May 5 at the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is a 4-man captain's choice with prizes for morning and afternoon tee times. MOC Invitational Golf Tournament

Handy Mart presents the 20th Annual MOC Invitational Golf Tournament, which will be held May 5-7 at Southern Wayne Country Club. The tournament format is two-man super ball, with a practice round on the May 5 and tournament play on May 6-7. The entry fee is $240 per team and fee includes carts for tourney only. All participants must be 21 or older and have amateur status. Entry fee and application must be received by May 3. Proceeds benefit the Handy Mart Scholarship Fund. Wayne Christian Golf Tournament

The Wayne Christian Golf Tournament will be held May 11 at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. The tournament, which also features a putting contest, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and lunch will be provided. The fee for individual players is $50 and $200 for a four-player team. A mulligan package and hole and team sponsors are also available. All proceeds go towards the purchase of a new shuttle bus for the school. For more information, contact Hayley Burt at 580-7966.

Wilson Phoenix soccer tryouts

Wayne Co. Post 11 meeting/tryouts

Wayne County Post 11 American Legion coach Brad Reaves has scheduled a mandatory tryout-participant meeting for all prospective Senior and Junior Legion players April 30 at 3 p.m. in the Southern Wayne High School gymnasium. The coaches and Legion officials will handle necessary paperwork issues at that time. An open, two-day tryout for all Senior and Junior Legion players is scheduled for May 20-21 at Scarborough Field on the Mount Olive College campus. Reaves and his staff will run a pro workout the first day and conduct a controlled scrimmage the next day.

Wayne Co. Bears bowling fundraiser

The Wayne County Bears of the Carolina Football Development League will be hosting a bowling fundraiser at AMF Boulevard Lanes on May 20 from 1-4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $15 from any member of the Bears staff or at the door. Fee will include three games and show rental. Cash prizes will be available to the top three scores. Contact coach Richard Bailey at 222-6095 for more information.
