RHS soccer improves to 14-1

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood erupted for six goals in the first half and cruised to a 10-1 win at Spring Creek on Monday in Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina Conference action.

In a balanced scoring effort, Erin Thibodeau scored four goals and dished out two assists for the Eagles, who improved to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in league play. Rachel McCormick contributed two goals and two assists, while Mary Jo Moore contributed two goals. Stephanie Behrend added a goal and two assists as Janneke Parrish also scored.

Mary Catherine Hollowell and Kelly Cosgrove dished out one assist each for the Eagles, who host North Johnston on Wednesday.

Spring Creek's lone goal came from Anna Potter on a penalty kick late in the first half.

The Gators travel to Princeton on Wednesday.

Wilson Hunt

WILSON -- With only seven players participating, Southern Wayne fell, 6-0 at Wilson Hunt on Monday in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Hunt (10-7-1 overall), the ECC co-leaders, improved to 8-1 heading into Wednesday's contest against Wilson Beddingfield. The Saints (0-12, 0-9 ECC) take on Charles B. Aycock either today or Wednesday. The game date was unavailable at press time.

Southern Wayne's Samantha Key and Courtney Blizzard turned in solid play on defense, while Heather Price and Leigh Ann Jarman were praised for hard work on offense by Saints' coach Clifton Broadhurst.

Campbell guides

Golden Falcons

Charles B. Aycock's Ryan Campbell claimed medalist honors with a 72 as the Golden Falcons emerged with the win in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match at Walnut Creek on Monday.

Aycock finished with a team score of 320, followed by Eastern Wayne at 325 and Wilson Hunt at 359. Southern Wayne (343), Wilson Beddingfield (408) and Kinston (374) rounded out the team scoring.

The Golden Falcons now own a seven-shot lead over the Warriors with one regular season match remaining today at Falling Creek in Kinston. The ECC Championship is slated for May 1 at Willow Springs in Wilson.

Will Vinson (80), Austin Forrest (84) and Michael Stevens (84) contributed to Aycock's winning score. Kyle Ham (79), Miles Perry (80), Nick Barrow (82) and Eric Huetter (84) paced Eastern Wayne. Southern Wayne's Brad Davis (81), Casey Best (83), Ryan Roberts (86) and Kevin Kornegay (93) led the Saints.

Carolina 1-A foes

AYDEN -- Spring Creek's Pat Wilkens shot a 74 to lead the Gators in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference match on Monday at Ayden Country Club.

Spring Creek finished with a team score of 317, topping Ayden-Grifton (324) by seven strokes. Princeton (330), North Johnston (335), Rosewood (348) and North Duplin (429) rounded out the team scoring.

Stephen Warren (76), Dustin Wood (83), Daniel Chewning (84) and Blake Rousay (86) paced the Gators. Rosewood's Shane Ogburn (79), Joey Wagner (87), Bradley Hill (94) and Gentry Minchew (98) contributed for the Eagles.

Shane Ogburn emerged the top scorer for Princeton with a 77, while Jonathan Lewis shot a 91 for North Duplin.

North Johnston's Tyler Grady claimed medalist honors -- firing a 70.

The next Carolina match is slated for today at Southern Wayne Country Club.

WILSON -- Greene Central's Colby Murphy claimed medalist honors by firing a 73 in a Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference match at Happy Valley on Monday.

The Rams finished with a team score of 304, edging North Lenoir at 306. Tarboro (337) and Farmville Central (368) rounded out the team scoring.

Brandon Jones (74), Josh Elmore (77) and Josh Morris (80) also competed for Greene Central. North Lenoir's Thomas Faulkner (74), Logan O'Neal (76), Will Norville (77) and Blair Cruz (79) led the Hawks.

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock pounded out 10 hits and improved to 6-1 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference with a 5-2 win at Kinston on Monday.

Brittany Ford, Shelly Lancaster and Stevie Savage had two hits each for Aycock (11-7 overall), while Julia Lancaster and Kandace Burroughs had one hit and one RBI each.

Julia Lancaster emerged with the win on the mound -- yielding just two hits and no runs with six strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work. After missing the last three weeks with an injury, Emily Jordan came on toss the final three innings.

Aycock travels to Wilson Fike on Wednesday in non-conference action, before hosting Wilson Hunt on Friday in ECC play.

one-hitter for WCS

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian's Traci Davis yielded just one hit and struck out eight of the 25 batters she faced in the Eagles' 4-1 win at Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Monday.

Regan Hinton paced Wayne Christian's offense with a double, while Davis, Charity Wright and Michelle Krug all had singles.

The Eagles (14-1 overall) will take a 4-1 mark in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference into Thursday's contest at home against Village Christian.

unbeaten

KINSTON -- Faith Christian's Holly Dawson had three hits in the Conquerors' 12-1 victory at Bethel Christian-Kinston on Monday.

Faith improved to 9-0 overall heading into today's doubleheader at home against Greenville Christian.

Jennifer Christopher picked up the win on the mound for the Conquerors, yielding just one run on three hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Renee Provencial added two hits for Faith.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian split a doubleheader at Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Monday.

The Eagles took the first game, 9-3, then suffered a 4-1 loss in game two.

Billy Smith had six hits in seven plate appearances in the two games, while Jeremy Jefferson and Adam Brannan had two hits each in game one.

Brannan picked up the win in game one -- striking out five against no walks and allowing only four hits and two earned runs in five innings of work.

Jordan Yelverton got the loss in game two for WCS (11-3 overall).

The Eagles will take a 7-0 mark in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference into Thursday's game at home against Village Christian.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 4-0 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference with a 9-0 sweep over Ayden-Grifton on Monday at home.

Cliff Wilson, Frederick Ellis, Brandon Strickland, Justin Smith, Jonathan Sutton and Daniel Correll emerged with singles wins for Spring Creek (9-2 overall). The same six players helped the Gators finish off the sweep in doubles.

Spring Creek hosts Rosewood on Thursday in league action.
