ZEBULON -- The Jacksonville Suns rode 15 hits, including back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 9-1 at Five County Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Suns (7-7) evened the series at two when Matt Kemp and Andy LaRoche took Carolina starter Paul Mildren (2-1) out to left field in the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie. Kemp's homer, his second in two games, occurred after a bunt single by Tony Abreu.

Jacksonville put the game away with five runs in the ninth inning, sending 10 hitters to the plate. Reliever Mike McNutt faced seven of the 10 hitters, allowing five hits and five runs.

The 15 hits marked the first time all season Carolina's pitching staff had allowed double-figure hits in a game.

The Mudcats close out their first homestand of the regular season today night against the Suns with Ben Julianel (0-0, 0.71) starting against Spike Lundberg (1-0, 1.86) at 7:15 p.m.
