Cooper, Buhrow garner CVAC accolades

THOMASVILLE -- David Cooper of Mount Olive has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Cooper hit safely in all six games last week, including a 4-for-4, four RBI performance in Mount Olive's (35-12 overall, 15-9 CVAC) regular season finale against Limestone. Cooper hit .522 and had four multi-hit games last week as he raised his season batting average 14 points to .399.
Cooper, who ranks in the top 10 in triples per game, hit three triples last week. His two-run triple with two outs in the eighth inning helped the Trojans withstand a late rally in a 14-10 win over Limestone to give Mount Olive sole possession of third place in the CVAC final standinds. Cooper drew two walks in the game and reached base in all six plate appearances.
In the previous game, he tripled with one out in the top of the fifth and scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the Trojans' 2-1 victory over Limestone. Cooper was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Mount Olive's 5-1 win over nationally fourth-ranked Catawba.
He was also 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Mount Olive's 5-1 win over nationally Belmont Abbey.
Cooper scored at least one run in each of the Trojans' six games last week as Mount Olive concluded the regular season with 14 wins in its final 15 games.
Paul Buhrow of Mount Olive was also selected as the CVAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Buhrow tossed a complete game one-hitter in Mount Olive's 3-1 victory over nationally fourth-ranked Catawba. Buhrow retired the side in order in five of the seven innings and the only run he allowed was unearned. He struck out six and walked none, allowing only a second-inning single. Buhrow faced only two batters over the minimum. Catawba came into the game averaging more than nine runs per game with a team batting average of .353.
