Prep roundup - Saints open tourney with win

SHALLOTTE -- Southern Wayne's baseball team opened up the three-day Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational with an 11-2 win on Monday over North Brunswick at West Brunswick High School.
David Combs led the Saints' nine-hit attack with three hits, including two doubles, with an RBI. Austin Hood drove in three runs and had two hits, while Chris Massey also added two hits, scored twice and drove in one run. Southern Wayne scored in all but one inning.
Saints' right-hander Ashton Langston turned in a stellar performance on the mound -- striking out six against no walks and giving up just four hits and two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work.
Josh Hamilton got the loss for North Brunswick.
The Saints continue play in the tournament today at 4 p.m. against the winner of North Davidson and South Brunswick.

Grantham 6, Fremont 0 -- Will Bunch had three hits for Grantham, while Taylor Brock and Jacob Sasser each had two hits. Jeremy tripled and drove in two runs and also tossed six innings of one-hit, shutout work on the mound in picking up the win. Grantham improved to 4-1.
