Kinston takes advantage of Hog miscues

KINSTON -- An error by Winston-Salem's shortstop in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed the K-Tribe's Brian Barton to score from third, sending the Indians to a 3-2 victory Sunday at Grainger Stadium.

Brandon Pinckney hit a hard ground ball to Warthog shortstop Cory Haggerty, who was playing in and planning to cut down Barton at home plate, but the ball skipped off his glove and out to center allowing the Tribe to win in walkoff fashion.

The error was the fourth in the game committed Winston-Salem and the seventh in two games by the Hogs.

The K-Tribe got the scoring going in the third inning when Wyatt Toregas scored on an RBI single by Brian Finnegan. The K-Tribe made it 2-0 when Pinckney scored after an Argenis Reyes ground out in the sixth.

Winston-Salem tied the game in the top of the sixth inning with a two-out triple by Anderson Gomes, driving in David Cook and Chris Kelly. K-Tribe reliever Jesus Soto (1-0) picked up the win after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the eight and retiring three straight batters in the ninth.

Kinston is now 8-2 on the year, owners of the best record in the Carolina League.

The K-Tribe now heads to Wilmington for a three game series with the Blue Rocks today through Wednesday night.
