Spring Creek's Stephen Warren and North Johnston's Tyler Grady shot a 70 to tie for medalist honors in a tightly-contested Class 1-A Carolina Conference match on Wednesday at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Princeton finished with a team score of 315 to claim the win, while the Gators followed closely at 316. North Johnston (318) and Ayden-Grifton (319) took third and fourth, respectively. Rosewood (333) and North Duplin (427) rounded out the team scoring.

Along with Warren, Pat Wilkens (79), Daniel Chewning (83) and Nathan Ford (84) contributed to Spring Creek's scoring as the Gators now have a three-shot edge on North Johnston for the overall conference lead.

Shane Ogburn (72), Joey Wagner (83), Gentry Minchew (84), Bradley Hill (94) and Steven Ash (94) participated for Rosewood.

Scott Woodard and Riley Boyette both shot 73 for Princeton, while Jonathan Lewis tallied a 93 for North Duplin.

The next conference match is April 24 at Ayden Country Club.

Warriors blank

Beddingfield

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's Samantha Frazer scored the games lone goal in the Warriors' 1-0 win at Wilson Beddingfield in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Wednesday.

Frazer's goal came five minutes into the second half on an assist from Deniz Alemdar.

The win, coupled with Wilson Hunt's victory over Charles B. Aycock, keeps Eastern Wayne (7-8-1 overall) and Hunt locked in a first-place tie -- both with 7-1 marks in the ECC. Beddingfield slipped to 3-4-1 in the league.

After the Easter break, the Warriors host Aycock on April 24.

Spring Creek

KENLY -- North Johnston jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime on its way to a 6-0 win over Spring Creek on Wednesday.

The win improves the Panthers (14-3-1 overall) to 4-2 in the Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference. Spring Creek (1-6 overall) slipped to 0-4 in the league.

Spring Creek coach Mandy Ramjford applauded the efforts of Betsy Salazar and Krysanna Shivar. Rebecca Barraza and Perla Lares combined for 19 saves for the Gators.

Spring Creek hosts Rosewood on April 24.

Hawks balanced

in win over PHS

PRINCETON -- Five different North Lenoir players scored goals in the Hawks' 7-0 win at Princeton on Wednesday.

Haley Bright and Sasha Holeman tallied two goals each for North Lenoir (16-0-1, 6-0 Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference), while Febe Barraza, Jordan Hudson and Lindsay Walton scored one goal each.

North Lenoir hosts North Johnston on April 24, while Princeton travels to Tarboro.

Hawks stay

unbeaten in EPC

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Stihl Sowers and Brandon Sutton combined for 12 strikeouts and limited Greene Central to four hits in the Hawks' 9-0 win at home on Wednesday.

Sowers went the first five innings, while Sutton finished off the shutout in the last two innings.

The win improves North Lenoir (17-1 overall) to 5-0 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference. The Rams (9-6 overall) slipped to 3-2 in league play.

North Lenoir was balanced at the plate as Taylor Ginn (3-4) led six Hawks with at least two hits. Sowers, Bryce Grady, Tyler Smith and John Alphin each provided two hits.

Tyler Chase paced Greene Central with two hits, including a double. Michael Speedy got the loss for the Rams, who take on Parrott Academy on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kinston High in the George Whitfield Easter Tournament.

North Lenoir, ranked third in the latest ImpactBaseball.com 2-A poll, travels to West Craven on April 21.

Sanders solid

for North Lenoir

SNOW HILL -- North Lenoir's Brittany Sanders pitched seven strong innings and led the Hawks with two hits, including an RBI triple, in their 6-2 victory at Greene Central on Wednesday.

Sanders finished with five strikeouts against only one walk and gave up only three hits as North Lenoir (11-5 overall) improved to 3-1 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference.

Greene Central (8-5-1 overall) slipped to 3-2 in the league.

Ashley Oakes paced the Rams at the plate with two hits. Cassie Webb endured the loss for Greene Central.

North Lenoir hosts Southern Wayne on April 21, while the Rams will participate in the Sara Law Tournament in Winterville over Easter Break.

SC still unbeaten

in conference

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 3-0 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference with a 6-3 win at home over North Johnston on Wednesday.

Cliff Wilson, Jonathan Sutton, John Potts and Justin Smith claimed singles wins for the Gators. The doubles combinations of Wilson-Frederick Ellis and Brandon Strickland-Smith finished off the victory in doubles.

Spring Creek (8-3 overall) hosts Ayden-Grifton on April 24.

KINSTON -- TEACH claimed a 7-2 win at Charles B. Aycock on Wednesday.

Eric Simmons, Sam Rouse, Chaz Fitzpatrick and Ricky Castillo claimed singles wins for TEACH, which also swept the doubles contests.

Aycock got wins in singles from Blake Cooper and Ben Evans.

On Tuesday, Kinston defeated the Golden Falcons by the same, 7-2 margin.

Aycock's wins came at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by the combinations of Cooper-Evans and Trevor Cann-Ben Nichols.

The Falcons (1-17, 1-6 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) travel to Wilson Hunt today.

Warriors sweep

ECC 3-A meet

Eastern Wayne seized first-place honors in seven individual events and captured two relays in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet contested Tuesday afternoon at Little Big Horn.

Talented distance runner Michael Lawrence posted meet-winning times in the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 38 seconds) and 800 run (2:09) for the Warriors, who slipped past Wilson Beddingfield 83-80.

Kinston finished a distant third with 14 points.

Monty Best emerged victorious in the 100 dash. Matt Interrante, a senior distance runner, claimed the 3,200-meter run in 11:19. The Warriors claimed the top five spots.

Eastern Wayne won the 400 and 3,200 relays.

On the girls' side, Eugenia Baker posted first-place finishes in the 200 (26.15) and 100 (12.4) as the Warriors rolled past the Bruins 82-53.5. The Vikings were third with 35.5 points.

Richelle Butler (shot put), Jenita Allen (discus), Noelle Kelly (400 run), Kelly Gregoracyk (1,600 run) and Shannon Rouse (3,200) each earned first-place times or distances in their respective events.

Eastern Wayne took the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Walnut Creek Ladies Golf

Charlotte Campbell won play of the day, while Mary Ann Sutton took low gross and Josie Ottiviani won low net. Dot Julian claimed low putts.

Middle schools

Spring Creek baseball 16, Greenwood 0 -- Spring Creek's Hunter Newsome had four hits, while Eric Evans, Chris Boseman and Jackson Keel each had three hits and Garrett Shivar added two hits. Evans picked up the win on the mound, yielding only one hit in four innings. Spring Creek (6-6, 4-2) finished the season in second place in the Division II.
