CALYPSO -- Robert McCullen banged out three hits and North Duplin captured its first Class 1-A Carolina Conference baseball victory 10-5 over Rosewood on Friday evening.

McCullen doubled and drove in three runs for the Rebels, who climbed to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Chris Graham added two hits, including a double, and two RBI in four plate appearances. Billy Mello doubled and provided two RBI in four at-bats. Doug Lloyd, Wade Sasser and Ryan Killette each contributed one hit.

Graham secured the pitching win and yielded five earned runs on nine hits in a four-inning stint. Lloyd threw three innings of three-strikeout, two-hit relief and earned the save.

Brantley Ellis paced Rosewood's offense with three hits, including a double, and an RBI. David Smeltzer plated two runs in a 2-for-4 outing. Kyle Bunn and Matt Godwin each added two hits.

Ellis was saddled with the mound loss.

North Duplin is the guest of Union next Monday, while Rosewood (7-6, 2-2 Carolina) completes first-half league play at home Tuesday against archrival Princeton.

PRINCETON -- Daniel Gerrell slapped a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting state-ranked Princeton to a come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Carolina 1-A rival Ayden-Grifton.

Gerrell's game-winning homer occurred after Patrick Gatewood smacked a game-tying, grand slam. The duo combined for nine of the Bulldogs' 13 hits and eight RBI.

Andrew Cobb added two hits for the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 3 in the latest ImpactBaseball.com 1-A poll.

Christopher Hinton claimed the pitching victory in relief of Dustin Pate, who surrendered two hits in a one-inning stint. Pate replaced starter Kyle Harmon, who surrendered eight runs (five earned) on eight hits in five innings of work.

Richie Turner led Ayden-Grifton (11-3, 2-2 Carolina) with a homer and three RBIs.

Princeton (9-3, 4-0 CC) concludes first-half conference play Tuesday at archrival Rosewood.

RED SPRINGS -- Travis Davis, Trent Langston and Kevin Herring each swatted a home run in Wayne Country Day's 20-0, non-conference victory over Flora MacDonald Academy.

Davis concluded the day 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Langston provided two RBI.

Kyle Pender threw a no-hitter and struck out seven in the contest, which was shortened to four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Wayne Country Day (7-6) returns home next Thursday for a game against Rocky Mount Academy.

Faith Christian banged out five extra-base hits and stopped Victory Christian of Elizabeth City 7-3 in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Victory picked up a 3-1 win in the opener.

In game two, Rusty Winders led the Conquerors with three hits and a double. Allen Ray Darby doubled and tripled in three at-bats. T.J. Sasser (2-for-4), Josh Brannan (3-for-4) and John Spencer (1-for-3) each doubled.

Jay Hinson and Brannan combined to pitch in the nightcap. Hinson (3-1) took the win and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits to go with seven strikeouts in four-plus innings. Brannan provided one-third inning of one-strikeout relief for the save.

Darby (1-2) recorded six strikeouts and took the mound loss for Faith Christian.

The Conquerors (6-3) entertain Trinity Christian-Greenville in N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A Region play next Thursday afternoon.

KENLY -- Timothy Rogers and Josh Singleton provided Spring Creek's offense in a 10-0 loss at Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Johnston on Friday.

Singleton doubled in three at-bats for the Gators, who remained winless in 13 outings.

Rogers, Paul Hayes and Alex Casey each pitched for Spring Creek. Rogers threw four-plus innings and gave up seven runs (two earned) on nine hits.

Garrett Grady led the Panthers with three hits and an RBI.

Tyler Thomas tossed a complete-game three-hitter as Wayne Christian throttled Northwood Temple 12-2 on the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference scene.

Thomas recorded six strikeouts and three walks in the game, which was shortened to six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Billy Smith homered and finished with two hits for Wayne Christian, which remained unbeaten in seven Carolina Christian outings. T.A. Brannan had three hits and an RBI.

Jeremy Jefferson provided two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Andrew Bass added two hits, including a double, and two RBI.

Wayne Christian (8-2) is the guest of Goldsboro High on Monday.

SNOW HILL -- Hunter and Tyler Chase combined for four hits and four RBI in Greene Central's 11-1 victory over Tarboro in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play.

Hunter tripled in a 2-for-2 effort, while Tyler batted 2-for-3 with a double.

Curtis Braswell added a two-RBI single for the Rams, who seized their third EPC win without a loss.

Conquerors grab

home doubleheader

Jennifer Christopher and Renee Provencial each earned a mound victory in Faith Christian's doubleheader sweep of Victory Christian on Friday afternoon.

Christopher improved to 5-0 on the mound in the Conquerors' 14-0 win in the opener. Provencial snagged her first-ever pitching win as Faith Christian prevailed 13-1 in the nightcap.

Holly Dawson had five hits in the two games, while Katie Best amassed four hits.

Faith Christian (6-0) entertains Trinity Christian-Greenville next Thursday afternoon.

Rebels benefit

from passed ball

CALYPSO -- Brittany Carr scored the game's lone run on a passed ball as North Duplin edged Rosewood 1-0 in Carolina 1-A Conference action Friday afternoon.

The Rebels (11-1) remained unbeaten in three Carolina outings.

Carr, Elizabeth Lane, Casey Pate and Kristen Jones each had one hit for North Duplin.

Jessica Pridgen emerged the winning pitcher and struck out eight in a complete-game effort. Courtney Hill spoiled Pridgen's no-hit bid with a seventh-inning single.

Chandra Meadows suffered the mound loss for Rosewood.

North Duplin travels to Union on Monday, while Rosewood (3-9, 1-3 Carolina) plays host to archrival Princeton on Tuesday.

Narron, Panthers

top Spring Creek

KENLY -- Jessica Narron tossed a complete-game three-hitter in North Johnston's 5-1 victory over Spring Creek in Carolina 1-A Conference play Friday afternoon.

Narron fanned three Gators and helped the Panthers (11-5) stay unbeaten at 3-0 on the conference scene.

Mount Olive College signee Hannah Ellis tripled twice in four at-bats for North Johnston.

Shanna Gooding paced Spring Creek at the plate, while Lorenda Brogden endured the loss on the mound.

Spring Creek (1-13) fell to 0-4 against Carolina opposition.

Panthers upend

Hawks at home

BETHEL -- North Pitt seized sole possession of the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference lead with a 3-0 victory over four-time defending league champion North Lenoir.

Kayla Sutton and Brittany Sanders each had one hit for the Hawks, who endured just their second regular-season EPC defeat in 43 outings.

Sanders endured the mound loss. The left-handed hurler yielded six hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort.

North Lenoir (10-5, 2-1 EPC) entertains Goldsboro next Tuesday.

GC past Vikings

TARBORO -- Cassie Webb slapped a home run and finished with four hits in Greene Central's 20-0 victory over Tarboro High in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action Friday afternoon.

Jessica Moore, Jessica Lovett and Megan Lovett each provided three hits for the Rams.

Moore picked up the mound win.

Greene Central (7-4-1, 2-1 EPC) plays host to Farmville Central next Tuesday.

C.B. Aycock

goes 1-0-1

PIKEVILLE -- Mariko Lydecker tallied two first-half goals and helped spark Charles B. Aycock to a 7-0 victory over county rival Southern Wayne on Friday afternoon.

Amanda Schlaeppi, Lizzie Sodoma, Deanna Taylor and Rebekah Katko each added a goal for the Golden Falcons.

Aycock battled to a 2-2, non-conference tie Thursday afternoon against Washington. Schlaeppi collected a pair of first-half goals to give the Golden Falcons a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Kristen Bennett assisted on Schlaeppi's first goal.

The Pam Pack scored twice in the second half.

Aycock coach John Fidler, added that Margaret Connolly and Caitlin Richards each played solid defense in the 100-minute affair.

C.B. Aycock (4-9-1, 3-2-1 ECC) travels to Kinston on Monday.

Rosewood sweeps

Carolina 1-A meet

Chris Holmes emerged a triple winner and Rosewood's boys captured first place in 15 of 18 contested events in a 98-47 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek.

Holmes dominated the 110 hurdles in 17.22 seconds and 300 hurdles in 45.66. He recorded a first-place leap of 39 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump.

Bradly Mullins claimed first in the pole vault (9-5) and 400 run (56.79). Teammates Matt Lassiter (shot put), Jeremy Hill (discus), Stephen McIntyre (high jump), Devon Bennett (100) and Terrance Williams (1,600) each got an individual win.

The Eagles also won the 3,200 run and three of four relays.

Ricky Mason won the long jump (18-7) for Spring Creek.

On the girls' side, Sherlita McFall, Sa'Coya Cox and Jamie Andrews each picked up two individual victories in Rosewood's 92-34 conquest of the Gators. McFall won the 100 (13.34) and 200 (29.5), while Cox continued her season-long dominance in the shot put (27-2 1/2) and discus (102-0).

Andrews seized the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. India McGowan (long jump), Erica Murray (pole vault) and Olivia Neal (400) also contributed top-place finishes.

Rosewood swept the relays.

Kerr-Vance Academy captured two crucial third-set tiebreakers and turned back Wayne Country Day 5-4 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference play Friday afternoon.

The Spartans' T.C. Qualls nipped top-seeded Ross Wilson 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 at the No. 1 slot. Teammate Will Jackson edged fifth-seeded Fred Ha 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-4.

David Wilson and Kevin Martell each seized a straight-set singles win to pull the Chargers within 4-2 heading into doubles. Wilson-Wilson and Martell-Ha each triumphed, but Kerr-Vance pulled out a match-clinching 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Wayne Country Day (9-2, 1-2 CPIC) travels to Arendell-Parrott Academy on Monday afternoon.

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central didn't drop a set and lost just one game in three doubles matches combined in a 9-0 victory over Eastern Plains 2-A rival Farmville Central on Thursday afternoon.

The Rams (10-3, 5-0 EPC) seized their 106th consecutive victory in conference play.

Travis Moore, Banks Nimmo, Bryan Pollock, Spencer Dail, Trey Cash and James Kersey each claimed a straight-set singles win.

Moore-Nimmo, Dail-Cash and Pollock-Andrew Harrison each prevailed in doubles. Moore-Nimmo and Dail-Cash each posted a shutout.

Greene Central travels to Tarboro next Tuesday afternoon.

DUDLEY -- Jay Rose drove in four runs and claimed the pitching victory in C.B. Aycock's 6-3 triumph over county rival Southern Wayne in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Rose batted 3-for-4 on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond. The right-hander scattered five hits and notched six strikeouts in a six-inning stint. Jessie Randolph provided one inning of relief for the save.

Steven Strouse and Will Edgerton each provided two hits for Aycock, which remained unbeaten in three ECC contests.

Jordan Williams and Ricky Oddon paced the Saints at the plate.

Michael Douglas endured the loss on the mound.

The Golden Falcons (14-1) are the guests of D.H. Conley on Monday. The Saints (3-8, 0-3 ECC) host Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.
