DUDLEY -- One day after Southern Wayne's Ashton Langston just missed out on a perfect game, T.J. Hinson followed up his teammate's effort with a stellar performance of his own.
Hinson (2-2) tossed his first career no-hitter, facing the minimum 21 batters in seven innings of work in the Saints' 6-0 win at home against Wilson Beddingfield.
Only two Bruins reached base. One reached on an error to start the second, but was doubled-off first on a line out. Hinson, who struck out eight against no walks, hit the first batter he faced in the third, but then picked him off. He was perfect the rest of the way.
"T.J. kept it down, was able to get ahead and locate his fastball on both sides of the plate. It's good when you can follow up Ashton's performance on Monday, then T.J. steps up and throws the baseball the way he's capable of throwing it," Southern Wayne coach Trae McKee said.
Garrett Barfield and Dave Overman had two hits and two RBI each at the plate for the Saints, while Austin Hood had a double and an RBI.
Southern Wayne (5-5 overall) will take a 2-0 mark in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference to Kinston on Friday. Beddingfield fell to 0-2 in the league and will travel to Eastern Wayne on Friday.
