WILSON -- Eastern Wayne finished with a team score of 331 to claim a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match held at Wedgewood Country Club in Wilson on Monday.

Charles B. Aycock finished with a team score of 333 to take second, while Southern Wayne finished third at 336. Wilson Hunt (338), Wilson Beddingfield (370) and Kinston (401) rounded out the team scoring.

Miles Perry paced the Warriors with an 80 as teammate Nick Barrow shot 81. Kyle Ham (84) and Scott Boyette (86) also contributed to Eastern Wayne's team score.

Ryan Campbell shot a 75 to claim medalist honors for the Golden Falcons, while Will Vinson (82), Michael Stevens (88) and Reding Pittman (88) added to Aycock's total.

Southern Wayne's Brad Davis paced his team with an 80 as Casey Best (82), Jay Connelley (86) and Andy Moore (88) also participated.

The next ECC match is slated for April 3 at Falling Creek in Kinston.

Hawks take EPC match

KINSTON -- North Lenoir's Thomas Faulkner and Logan O'Neal both shot 75 to take medalist honors -- leading the Hawks to win in a Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference match on Monday at Falling Creek.

North Lenoir finished with a team score of 309, while Greene Central claimed second at 329. Farmville Central (348), Tarboro (359) and North Pitt (400) rounded out the team scoring.

Colby Murphy paced the Rams with 78 as teammate Blake Sutton fired a 79. Josh Elmore (84) and Josh Morris (88) also participated for Greene Central.

North Pitt is scheduled to host the next EPC match on April 3.

Soccer

Eagles remain unbeaten

TARBORO -- Rosewood's Erin Thibodeau scored four goals in the Eagles' 5-0 win at Tarboro High on Monday in Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference action.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in league play heading into Wednesday's match at home against Spring Creek.

Stephanie Behrend added a goal and two assists for Rosewood. Mary Jo Moore dished out one assist.

Hunt edges C.B. Aycock

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Nida Waheed and Rebekka Katko scored one goal each in the Golden Falcons' 3-2 loss at Wilson Hunt on Monday in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Waheed scored the game's first goal unassisted as the Falcons maintained a 1-0 lead before Hunt's Alex Calvert tied the game late in the first half.

The Warriors scored the first two goals of the second half to go up 3-1, then Katko completed the scoring with 20 minutes left.

Aycock (3-7, 2-1 ECC) hosts archrival Eastern Wayne on Wednesday.

Hawks blank Princeton

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Sasha Holeman and Haley Bright posted two goals a piece in the Hawks' 7-0 win at home over Princeton on Monday in the Classes 1-A/2-A Carolina/Eastern Plains Conference opener for both teams.

North Lenoir improved to 9-0-1 overall and will take a 1-0 league mark into Wednesday's match at North Johnston. The contest was the first conference soccer game for the Bulldogs (0-1 Carolina/EPC) in school history.

Febe Barazza, Ruthanne Hardy and Lindsay Walton had one goal each for North Leoir.

Princeton hosts Tarboro on Wednesday.

Eagles suffer close loss

Wayne Christian's Brooke Norris scored two goals in regulation as the Eagles fell, 5-4, in game that went into penalty kicks.

Shanna Yeager and Charlie Ipock had goals in the penalty-kick session.

Wayne Christian (2-4, 1-2 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference) hosts Hobgood today.

Saints fall in ECC play

KINSTON -- Kinston defeated Southern Wayne, 10-0 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action on Monday at Viking Stadium.

"The scores are big, but we're trying to keep it interesting and keep improving. We're young," Saints' coach Clifton Broadhurst said.

The Saints (0-5, 0-3 ECC) return to action on Wednesday at home against Wilson Hunt.

Baseball

Faith drops Berean in six

Faith Christian smacked four doubles and scored five runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 10-0 win at home against Berean Baptist.

The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Josh Brannan, T.J. Sasser, John Spencer and Jeremy Sandlin all doubled during the rally. Brannan also provided a home run in the third.

Brannan, Sandlin and Taylor Stocks combined for 10 strikeouts in six innings of work for the Conquerors.

Faith (3-2, 3-2) travels to Berean on April 3 for the first of four games next week.

Eagles topple Johnston Christian

Wayne Christian's Adam Brannan and Doug Johnson combined on a one-hit shutout in the Eagles' 15-0 win against Johnston Christian on Monday.

Brannan struck out 10 in four innings of work, fanning the first nine batters he faced. He allowed only one hit and walked none. Johnson came on in the fifth to strike out the side.

The game was called after five due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Andrew Bass provided three hits for Wayne Christian (5-2, 4-0 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference), while Jordan Yelverton, Jeremy Jefferson, Travis Thomas, Brannan and Johnson added two hits each.

The Eagles travel to Cape Fear on Thursday.

Softball

Faith improves to 3-0

Faith Christian's Katie Best and Jennifer Christopher had two hits each in the Conqueors' 16-5 win over Bethel Christian on Monday.

Christopher also picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven and giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits.

Faith (3-0) hosts Liberty-Durham on April 6.

Rams tally home win

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Megan Lovett had three hits and drove in four runs in the Rams' 11-4 win at home over Wilson Fike on Monday in non-conference play.

Greene Cenral will take a 5-2-1 record into Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action on Friday at home aginst North Pitt.

Blair Carraway added one hit and two RBI for the Rams.

Cassie Webb picked up the win on the mound, striking out five against three walks. Webb yielded seven runs on four hits.

Kellen Skinner got the loss for the Golden Demons.

JV Baseball

Warriors win county contest

Eastern Wayne's Anthony Otellio went the distance, striking out 13 batters and yielding just three hits in seven innings in the Warriors' 5-2 win at home over Southern Wayne on Monday.

Jeff Hill paced Eastern Wayne at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Chad Gurley provided a double.

Mike Douglas led the Saints with a single and two RBI.

Southern Wayne (2-5, 0-1 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) committed six errors, leading to five unearned runs.

The Saints travel to Wallace-Rose Hill in non-league action today, while the Warriors travel to Wilson Hunt in conference play.

Down East Amateur Golf Tour

NEW BERN -- Goldsboro's Robert Blair fired an 80 to finish third in the A Flight on Saturday in a Down East Amateur Golf Tour event held at Emerald Golf Course in New Bern.

In the C Flight, Robert Davidsion and Ed Baker both fired 92.

The next event is scheduled for April 8 at River Bend Country Club in New Bern.

Middle schools

Grantham baseball 24, Mount Olive 7 -- Miles Bradshaw, Will Broadwell, Jonathan Lawhorn and Chris Best paced Grantham at the plate -- each posting multiple hits. Bradshaw, Dean Grady and Bryce Vance all saw action on the mound for Grantham in the five-inning win. The Bulldogs (4-3-1, 4-0) host Norwayne on Thursday.

Norwayne baseball 10, Brogden 0 -- Connor Narron and Nick McGee had two hits each for the Cobras (7-2, 3-2). Tyler Ruffin picked up the win on the mound for Norwayne, while Eric Dubose came on in relief as the duo combined for a one-hitter. Norwayne travels to Grantham on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne baseball 17, Greenwood 0 -- Josh Frederick and Zachary Beachem had three hits each for Eastern Wayne (8-0, 4-0), while Michael Fields had two hits, including a home run. Logan Wicks and Beachem combined on a one-hitter for the Warriors, who travel to Rosewood on Thursday.
