WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Ryan Campbell shot a 73 to claim medalist honors and lift the Golden Falcons to a win in the second Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match on Monday at Wedgewood Golf Course.

Aycock finished with a team score of 312, while Eastern Wayne took second at 322 and Wilson Hunt followed with a 339. Southern Wayne (346) and Wilson Beddingfield (368) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Kinston (389) rounded out the team scoring.

Will Vinson added a 77 for the Golden Falcons as Austin Forrest (79) and Jordan Elmore (83) contributed to their team's score.

Kyle Ham and Nick Barrow each shot 79 for Eastern Wayne, while Miles Perry and Scott Boyette fired 82's.

Brad Davis and Casey Best paced Southern Wayne with 85's as Jay Connelley (87) and Andy Moore (89) also competed for the Saints.

The next ECC match will be at Willow Springs in Wilson next Monday.

FARMVILLE -- Greene Central's Brandon Jones and North Lenoir's Will Norville tied for medalist honors -- each shooting 76 -- in a Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference match on Monday at Farmville Country Club.

The Rams won the match with a 315, followed by the Hawks at 325. Farmville (352) and Tarboro (358) took third and fourth, respectively, while North Pitt (400) rounded out the team scoring.

Colby Murphy finished with a 77 for Greene Central, while Josh Elmore (78) and Blake Sutton (84) also contributed to Greene Central's score.

The Rams return to action on Thursday at Walnut Creek against Eastern Wayne. The next EPC match is next Monday at Falling Creek.

CBA erases

halftime deficit

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Lizzie Sodoma scored two goals after halftime as the Golden Falcons defeated Wilson Beddingfield, 2-1 on Monday at the Bruins' field in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener for both teams.

Aycock (2-5, 1-0 ECC) trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Emily Stewart finished with five saves in goal for the Falcons, who host Kinston on Wednesday.

DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne's Natalie Taylor tallied a hat trick (three goals) as the Warriors claimed a 6-0 win at Southern Wayne on Monday.

The contest, which was called after the first half due to inclement weather and dangerous playing conditions, was the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener for both teams.

Samantha Frazer, Deniz Alemdar and Helen Baddour added one goal each for Eastern Wayne (1-6-1, 1-0 ECC).

The shutout was first-year Warrior goalie, Brittany Spence's second in three games.

The Warriors host Wilson Hunt on Thursday, while the Saints entertain Wilson Beddingfield on Wednesday.

Saints blast

N. Johnston

KENLY -- Southern Wayne's Brianna Lofton smacked two, over-the-fence home runs and drove in seven runs as the Saints claimed an 11-0 win at perennial 1-A power, North Johnston on Monday.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run, mercy rule.

Haley Fail and Lindsay Pearsall added two hits and one RBI each for Southern Wayne (6-4), while Morgan Davis had two hits and scored twice. The Saints finished with 12 total hits.

Lauren Darden turned in another solid effort on the mound for the Saints -- yielding no runs on three hits with one strikeout and three walks in five innings of work. Southern Wayne turned in errorless defense behind Darden.

"Our defense played a lot better than we've been playing, and Brianna was a tough out. She hit the ball hard every time at bat," Saints' coach Brad Matthews said.

Jessica Narron endured the loss for the Panthers.

Eagles remain

unbeaten

HOBGOOD -- Wayne Christian's Traci Davis struck out 13 and yielded just two hits in seven innings of work to help boost the Eagles to an 11-4 win at Hobgood Academy on Monday.

Kayla Kennedy paced the Eagles (5-0) at the plate with three hits, including a double, while Davis helped her cause with three hits. Regan Hinton and Charity Wright added two hits each for Wayne Christian, while Danielle Pender contributed a triple.

The Eagles scored six runs in the sixth inning to break the game open.

Wayne Christian hosts Community Christian on Thursday in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play.

Warriors claim

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's Joey Moye slugged a towering, two-run home run in the Warriors' 8-5 win at Wilson Fike on Monday.

Eastern Wayne avenged an early-season loss to the Golden Demons and improved to 3-5 on the season.

Tyler Ham had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Taylor Sutton added two hits and drove in one.

Michael Mintz (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for Eastern Wayne -- yielding no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work. Ham worked the final three innings in relief.

Bentley Massey endured the loss for Fike, while teammate David Gibbons paced the Demons at the plate with two hits and two RBI.

Eastern Wayne returns to action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Greenville Rose at Guy Smith Stadium.

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne's Ashton Langston had two hits and drove in three runs as the Saints suffered a 7-6 loss at home to Fayetteville Jack Britt on Monday.

Chris Massey added two hits and scored twice for Southern Wayne (3-5), while T.J. Hinson contributed a double and two RBI.

Hinson (1-2) endured the loss on the mound for the Saints, yielding seven runs (four earned) on 13 hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Southern Wayne committed three errors and all three led to runs for Jack Britt.

Eddie George, Justin Joyner, Gabe Villegas and Kevin McKagve paced the Buccaneers at the plate.

The Saints host Wilmington Hoggard on Wednesday.

WCS suffers

road loss

HOBGOOD -- Wayne Christian's Andrew Bass had two hits and an RBI in the Eagles' 5-2 loss at Hobgood Academy on Monday.

Billy Smith added two hits, while Tyler Thomas drove in one for Wayne Christian (3-1), which suffered its first loss of the season.

Thomas got the loss on the mound, yielding five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at home against Community Christian.

Norwayne baseball 18, Grantham 2 -- Nick McGee had three hits for the Cobras, while Tyler Ruffin, Connor Narron, Jordan Quinn and Dylan Barfield added two hits. Eric Dubose picked up the win on the mound for Norwayne (5-2, 1-2). The Cobras travel to Rosewood on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne baseball 19, Rosewood 9 -- Michael Fields led the Warriors at the plate with three hits, while Zachary Beachem and Johnathan Carter added two hits each. Josa Ponce, Fields and Josh Frederick saw action on the mound for Eastern Wayne (6-0, 2-0). The Warriors visit Brogden on Thursday.

Spring Creek softball 19, Goldsboro 4 -- Lindsey Parks had two hits and scored three times for Spring Creek, while Elizabeth Wilkens, Alyssa Potter, Sarah McCollum and Brittany Collier scored three runs each. Wilkens picked up the win on the mound for the Gators.
