Trent Langston provided three hits and an RBI in Wayne Country Day's 15-7, non-conference victory over county rival Goldsboro High on Friday afternoon.

Langston emerged one of three multiple-hit peformers for the Chargers, who improved to 3-2 overall. Ryan Ford doubled and plated a run in his 2-for-3 outing. Kevin Herring batted 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI.

Kyle Pender and Cameron Ford each provided two RBI.

Herring picked up the pitching win. The right-hander struck out nine, walked two and surrendered five earned runs on three hits in six innings. Pender threw one inning of one-strikeout, three-hit relief.

Eric McLean and Monquavius Edwards each banged out two hits for Goldsboro (0-5). Dante Love and Cedric McClary each contributed one hit.

Edwards suffered the pitching loss.

Wayne Country Day entertains Rocky Mount Academy next Tuesday in the Classes 1-A/2-A Coastal Plains Independent opener for both teams. The Cougars travel to Rosewood on Tuesday.

Warriors to road win

WILMINGTON -- Eastern Wayne right-hander Taylor Sutton limited New Hanover to five hits in a six-inning stint and the Warriors escaped with a 3-2, non-conference victory Friday afternoon.

Sutton yielded two earned runs and struck out four in six innings of work. Michael Mintz retired the Wildcats on three consecutive strikeouts in the seventh for the save.

"It was a good win for us and we needed that," said Eastern Wayne coach Jabo Fulghum, whose team improved to 2-5 overall. "The kids played extremely well and played good defense."

Joey Moye and Walker Gourley each doubled and concluded the day with four hits combined.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Monday at Wilson Fike.

blitz Panthers

KENLY -- Garrett Davis and Jackson Massey combined for a three-hitter as state-ranked Charles B. Aycock thumped North Johnston 8-0 on Friday afternoon.

Davis (2-0) allowed just two hits and struck out seven Panther batters in a four-inning stint. Massey provided three innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief.

"Garrett and Jackson both threw the ball well," said C.B. Aycock coach Charles Davis.

Massey and Garrett Davis combined for four hits and three RBI offensively. K.C. Kartch doubled in a 2-for-2 effort. Thomas Pilkington (RBI) and Evan Medford (1-for-1) also contributed to the Golden Falcons' nine-hit attack.

Aycock stole eight bases and played flawless on defense.

"I thought we came out much better focused than our previous game and we cut down on our mental mistakes," said coach Davis. "Overall, we played well. The bottom of the lineup produced well yesterday and that's a good sign."

Craig Harding, Garrett Grady and Travis Jones each had one hit for the Panthers.

Josh Parrott took the mound loss.

C.B. Aycock, now 8-0 and ranked No. 9 among the state's Class 3-A teams by ImpactBaseball.com, entertains Greene Central next Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

CCC 1-A road win

NORLINA -- Billy Smith slapped an inside-the-park home run and notched three RBI in Wayne Christian's 12-0 victory over Norlina in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Friday afternoon.

Smith finished with two hits in the contest, which was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Jordan Yelverton (RBI) and Andrew Bass (2 RBI) each pounded out two hits.

Jeremy Jefferson doubled and drove in a run. Adam Brannan tripled and plated two runs.

Tyler Thomas and Doug Johnson combined for nine strikeouts and held Norlina to one hit.

Wayne Christian (3-0, 2-0 CCC) is the guest of Hobgood next Monday afternoon. It's a rematch of last year's opening-round game in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs, which the Eagles won.

WILMINGTON -- Austin Hood and T.J. Hinson accounted for Southern Wayne's two hits in a 2-1, non-conference loss against Wilmington Ashley on Friday afternoon.

David Combs surrendered two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out five in a six-inning stint. It was Combs' fourth start of the season.

Bulldogs rally

past Midway

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Princeton tallied five runs during a two-inning stretch and turned back Midway 5-3 in non-conference play Friday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0, the Bulldogs posted two runs in the fifth inning. Dustin Pate led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and stayed at third on Patrick Gatewood's double.

Daniel Gerrell plated both runners with a two-strike single to make it 2-1.

"He's having a time," said Princeton coach Bruce Proctor of Gerrell, who is averaging two hits per outing.

Pate added a two-RBI single in the sixth and Kyle Harmon crossed home on Michael Radford's sacrifice fly to end the visitors' scoring.

Midway, of the Super Six 1-A Conference, pulled within 5-3 in the seventh.

Princeton hurler Colin Parker (2-1) grabbed the mound win and struck out eight Raiders in a six-inning stint. Harmon provided one inning of relief and earned his first save of the season.

The Bulldogs (4-2) are the guests of Hobbton next Tuesday afternoon.

SNOW HILL -- Drew Sowers belted a home run and two Greene Central teammates added three hits apiece in a 15-0, non-conference victory over Spring Creek on the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex diamond Friday afternoon.

Sowers drove in three runs on his first home run of the season. Hunter Chase added three hits and two RBI in three at-bats. Catcher Lance Murray contributed three hits and two RBI.

William Brown emerged the winning pitcher and held the Gators to one hit in a four-inning stint. Sowers threw the fifth and yielded one hit.

The contest was called after 4 1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Greene Central (4-3) travels to C.B. Aycock next Tuesday afternoon, while Spring Creek plays host to Midway.

Conquerors take

two NCCSA wins

Faith Christian remained unbeaten in three outings with a doubleheader sweep of Falls Road Baptist in N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A Region play Friday afternoon.

A.R. Darby and T.J. Sasser combined for a four-hitter as the Conquerors prevailed 11-1 in the first game, shortened to 4 1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Jay Hinson and Josh Brannan combined for a two-hitter in a 5-0 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Brannan and Josh Spencer rapped back-to-back doubles to highlight a six-run uprising in the second inning. Brannan finished game 3-for-3 with five RBI, while Spencer batted 1-for-2.

Rusty Winders added two hits.

Sasser rapped a run-scoring triple in the second inning of game two that led to a five-run outburst by the Conquerors. Sasser collected three RBI, while Jeremy Sandlin doubled in two plate appearances.

Faith Christian is the guest of Berean Baptist Academy-Fayetteville on Monday.

Stacie Wade batted 3-for-4 with an RBI. Teammates Elizabeth Cooper contributed three hits and two RBI in four plate appearances, while Cassie Webb delivered a three-hit, three-RBI outing.

Elizabeth Webb scattered three hits and retired eight Gators on strikeouts in a complete-game effort. The Gators, of the Carolina 1-A Conference, tallied two unearned runs.

Lorenda Brogden suffered the mound loss for Spring Creek.

to first victory

DUDLEY -- Georgia Crow delivered a hat trick-plus-one (four goals) in Wayne Country Day's 8-0, non-conference conquest of Southern Wayne.

Stephanie Knutson, Dea Proimos, Caroline Lewis and Virginia Taylor each provided one goal. Proimos and Knutson combined for three assists.

Keeper Ellen Elmore notched one save en route to the shutout.

"All in all, the team played well and we are finally starting to gel," said first-year Chargers coach Paul Estrada. "Southern Wayne has a lot of talent and a great bunch of girls. I believe we were able to come out on top because of our hard work at practice and experience."

Wayne Country Day (1-1) entertained Flora MacDonald Academy on Friday afternoon.

Gators edge

East Duplin

Spring Creek's Stephen Warren claimed medalist honors with a 74, helping the Gators to a 332-333 win over East Duplin at Walnut Creek on Thursday.

Dustin Woods (82), Pat Wilkens (86) and Daniel Chewning (90) added to Spring Creek's team total.

Luke Hunter paced the Panthers with 78.

The Gators return to action on Wednesday at Falling Creek against North Lenoir.

Stephen Gallagher threw a complete-game three-hitter and notched five strikeouts for the Eagles, who evened their record at 1-1. Gallagher added one hit offensively.
