PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Bradley Taylor had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and drove in five runs in the Golden Falcons' 15-9 win at home over Clayton on Wednesday.

Aycock, which has scored 31 runs in the last two games, improved to 7-0 heading into Friday's contest at North Johnston.

The Falcons trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the third, but rallied for four runs to tie the game. Clayton then went up 7-5, before Aycock retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth and never trailed again.

"We didn't play bad physically, but it was a frustrating game because we made about seven mental mistakes," Aycock coach Charles Davis said.

Will Spence added three hits with a double and an RBI for the Falcons, while Joseph Toler (2-4) and Bennett Jeffreys (1-3) also providing a double with Jeffreys driving in two runs.

Brandon Price (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for Aycock, yielding seven runs (five earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work. K.C. Kartch came on to toss three innings of relief, picking up the save.

Chris Myers endured the loss for the Comets, while teammates Athan Parker and Richard Wall paced Clayton at the plate with one home run each.

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning on Tuesday at Midway, but the Raiders answered with all nine of their runs in the next three innings in a 9-6 victory over the Eagles.

Kyle Bunn and Taylor Allen had two hits each for Rosewood (2-3), while Dustin Sittig added one hit and scored twice.

Rex Threewits endured the loss on the mound for the Eagles in two innings of relief work. Brantley Ellis went the first four innings -- yielding five runs on four hits with there walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles committed four errors in the fourth inning, which led to five runs on three hits.

Tyler Fann went the distance and picked up the win the for Midway, while teammate Cameron Parker had two hits, including a double.

Rosewood returns to action today at Wayne Country Day at 4 p.m.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Lenoir had eight different players with two hits each in a 15-2 win at Spring Creek on Wednesday.

Brandon Sutton, Andrew Manning, Brian Smith, Bryce Grady, C.C. Croom, John Alphin and Taylor Ginn finished with two hits a piece for the Hawks (8-0), with Ginn providing a home run.

Dewitt Pope picked up the win for North Lenoir, yielding one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts against no walks in four innings of work.

Ray Grady got two hits for Spring Creek (0-6).

Timothy Rodgers got the loss on the mound for the Gators in two innings of work.

The Hawks host West Craven on Friday, while Spring Creek travels to Greene Central.

Kandace Burroughs was the lone Aycock player with two hits.

Kristen Alford and Kasie Moore had three hits for the Comets with Alford posting a home run. Megan and Lauren Hudson had two hits apiece for Clayton.

Emily Jordan got the loss on the mound for Aycock -- yielding nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Sarah Jackson avenged an early-season loss to the Falcons and picked up the win, striking out 10 against one walk and giving up three runs on seven hits.

Aycock returns to action on Friday at North Johnston.

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Connor Jordan struck out 13 against just two walks and allowed just four hits in the Hawks' 6-1 win over Spring Creek on Wednesday.

Jordan also had two hits, including a triple, with an RBI at the plate, while teammate Jessica Kennedy had two hits and two RBI.

North Lenoir (7-1) travels to Southern Wayne on Friday, while Spring Creek hosts Greene Central.

No further information was provided on Wednesday's game.

Campbell leads

C.B. Aycock

Charles B. Aycock's Ryan Campbell fired a 76 to take medalist honors and lead the Golden Falcons to a win over North Lenoir at Lane Tree Golf Course on Wednesday.

Aycock finished at 330, while the Hawks shot 335.

Austin Forrest added an 83 for the Falcons, while Will Vinson (85) and Michael Stevens (86) also contributed to the team scoring.

Blair Crew paced North Lenoir with a 79, while Will Norville (84), Thomas Faulkner (85) and Logan O'Neal (87) also participated for the Hawks.

Aycock travels to Wilson for a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match on Monday.

AYDEN -- Greene Central's Colby Murphy fired a 77 to take medalist honors as the Rams claimed a win in a three-team match at Ayden Country Club on Wednesday.

Greene Central won the match with a 326, followed by Ayden-Grifton (337) and North Pitt (400).

Josh Elmore (80), Blake Sutton (84) and Brandon Jones (85) contributed to the Rams' team score.

Greene Central faces SouthWest Edgecombe today at Maccripines.

Hawks, Warriors

finish scoreless

After 80 minutes of regulation, Eastern Wayne and North Lenoir finished in a 0-0 tie on Wednesday at Little Big Horn.

Febe Barraza finished with 10 saves for the Hawks (8-0-1), while Brittany Spence had three saves for the Warriors (0-1-5).

Eastern Wayne coach Jörg Wagner praised the effort of Carol Reinier, who did a solid job of marking North Lenoir's leading scorer, Katie Maloney.

The Warriors return to action on Friday at Jacksonville White Oak. The Hawks host Washington on Tuesday.

RHS teams

take road meet

WILSON -- Rosewood's boys and girls track teams each claimed non-conference road victories over Princeton and the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf on Tuesday in Wilson.

The Eagles' boys won with 115 team points with Princeton (38) and ENCSD (27) rounding out the team scoring.

Rosewood's girls finished with 78 team points, edging Princeton (74), while ENCSD had 19 team points.

In the boys meet, Jeremy Hill (shot put and discus), Chris Hill (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Terrance Williams (800 meters, 1600 meters) won two events each for Rosewood (2-5)

Shanita Monroe won two events for the Lady Eagles (6-1) -- the high jump and 400 meters. Heather Braswell paced Princeton with wins in the 1600 and 3200 meters.

Rosewood returns to action on Monday at home against Lakewood.

VANCEBORO -- Southern Wayne's Ricky Oddon had three hits in the Saints' 11-7 win at West Craven on Wednesday.

Scott Holloman added two hits for Southern Wayne (2-3), while Cameron Wiggins added two singles and four RBI.

Jordan Williams and Robert Herring also drove in runs for the Saints, who host Wilmington Ashley on Friday.

Wiggins picked up the win on the mound -- striking out nine and giving up three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. Phil Howell came on to get the last out of the game for the Saints.

Rose near-perfect

for Falcons

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Jay Rose was three outs away from a perfect game, before Clayton got a hit in the top of the seventh in the Golden Falcons' 7-0 win at home over the Comets.

Rose finished with 11 strikeouts against only one walk, giving up just one hit.

Jordan Carr had two hits for the Falcons, while Zach Wright and Will Edgerton had one triple each.

Aycock (5-1) hosts North Johnston on Friday.

Middle schools

Grantham baseball 12, Spring Creek 0 -- Will Bunch, Will Broadwell and Bryan Vance had three hits each for Grantham, while Travis Weaver added two hits. Broadwell went five innings on the mound, yielding no runs on no hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Grantham (1-2-1, 1-0-1) travels to Goldsboro today.
