Reinhard HR lifts Rosewood in extra innings

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Aubrey Reinhard smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning and propelled Rosewood to a 5-4, non-conference victory over Midway on Tuesday afternoon.

Reinhard concluded the day 2-for-3.

Jessica Price, Courtney Hill and Jennifer Hall each added two hits for the Eagles, who claimed their second victory of the season in five tries. Kasey Gray, Stephanie Rhodes and Missy Bailey each contributed one hit.

Chandra Meadows claimed the pitching win.

Rosewood travels to Wallace-Rose Hill on Thursday.

Saints drop

GREENVILLE -- Brittany Sutton scattered three hits and unbeaten D.H. Conley shut out Southern Wayne 2-0 in non-conference play Tuesday evening.

Sutton, a junior right-hander, recorded seven strikeouts in the complete-game victory. Conley remained unbeaten in five outings.

Southern Wayne hurler Lauren Darden battled Sutton in every inning and yielded just three hits in seven innings.

"Lauren had her best game last night," said Southern Wayne coach Brad Matthews. "She hit her spots, changed speeds and kept them off balance."

Darden, Alyssa Bradshaw and Beth Brown each had one hit for the Saints.

Southern Wayne (3-4) entertains East Duplin today.

Panthers score

early, top CBA

PIKEVILLE -- North Johnston plated four first-inning runs and kept the momentum in a 7-3, non-conference victory over Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a matchup between two teams that reached the N.C. High School Athletic Association final four a year ago. The Golden Falcons finished fourth overall in Class 3-A, while the Panthers claimed runner-up honors on the 1-A scene.

North Johnston pitcher Jessica Narron yielded three unearned runs on nine hits in a complete-game effort. Narron, a right-hander, benefited from two double plays and improved to 6-1 on the mound.

Hannah Ellis, Casey Creech (two RBI) and Whitney Parrish each had two hits for the Panthers. Robyn Creech provided a double in four at-bats.

Jasmine Dobbin doubled and tripled in three plate appearances for Aycock, which dropped its third consecutive game and dipped to 1-4 overall. Stevie Savage, Brittani Edgerton and Jazzmine Lee each contributed two hits.

Golden Falcon pitcher Julia Lancaster allowed five earned runs and posted four strikeouts.

Each team continues play today before facing each other in a rematch Friday in Kenly. North Johnston travels to Union in a battle of state-ranked teams, while Aycock plays host to Clayton.

North Lenoir

shuts out Kinston

KINSTON -- Brittany McPhail collected the game's lone run in North Lenoir's 1-0, non-conference victory over Kinston on Tuesday afternoon.

McPhail drew a walk in the fifth, and stole second and third bases. The speedy senior eventually scored on a passed ball for the Hawks, the reigning N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A champions.

Conner Jordan provided two hits on offense and claimed the pitching win. She struck out eight and gave up just two hits in a complete-game effort.

North Lenoir (6-1) entertains Spring Creek at 4:30 p.m. today.

Lane, Jones

lead North Duplin

SALEMBURG -- Elizabeth Lane belted an inside-the-park home run and Kristen Jones added an RBI double in North Duplin's 11-7, non-conference victory over Lakewood on Tuesday afternoon.

Lane concluded the day 2-for-3 with a single and two RBI. Jones provided two hits in three plate appearances.

The Rebels' Kayla Myers surrendered seven runs (three earned) on seven hits in a complete-game pitching effort. The Leopards tallied all seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to avoid losing by the five-inning, 10-run mercy rule.

Myers struck out three and walked two.

Jodie Williamson, Brittany Carr, Heather Hudson and Jessica Pridgen each plated an RBI. The Rebels (5-1) collected eight runs in the top of the first and led 11-0 after 2 1/2 innings.

Bulldogs' offense

PRINCETON -- Kyle Harmon provided three extra-base hits and plated five runs in Princeton's 11-3, non-conference victory over Hobbton on the Fred Bartholomew Athletic Complex diamond Tuesday evening.

Harmon doubled twice and tripled in three plate appearances for the Bulldogs, who improved to 3-2 overall.

Daniel Gerrell and Ryan Daughtry, the winning pitcher, each contributed three hits. Daughtry tripled and drove in two runs. Gerrell added an RBI. Andrew Cobb batted 3-for-4, also.

Daughtry scattered four hits and struck out three Wildcat batters in a six-inning stint.

Princeton is the guest of Midway on Friday.

McCullen rips

grand slam

SALEMBURG -- Robert McCullen slapped a first-inning grand slam and North Duplin cruised to a 14-9, non-conference victory over Hobbton on Tuesday afternoon.

McCullen's round-tripper, his second of the season, helped cap a seven-run, first-inning uprising by the Rebels. McCullen ended the day with two hits and six RBI in five at-bats.

Billy Mello added three hits and an RBI in five at-bats. Trey Beavers doubled and plated a run in a 2-for-4 showing. Doug Lloyd contributed two hits and an RBI.

Will Lewis and Brad Rhodes each singled to complete the Rebels' 11-hit attack.

Rock Bennett seized the pitching win in relief of starter Doug Lloyd, who allowed Lakewood to tie the game at 7-7 in the third inning. Lloyd gave up six runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks. Bennett provided four innings of seven-strikeout, two-hit relief.

Chris Graham threw the final inning.

SNOW HILL -- Logan Hessert and designated hitter Pat Jones combined for six hits and four RBI in South Central's 10-5, non-conference victory over Greene Central on the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex diamond Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams managed just four hits -- one each from Hunter Chase, Michael Speedy, Trey Beamon and Curtis Braswell. The same group combined for four RBI.

Speedy endured the pitching loss.

Greene Central (3-3) looks to snap its two-game skid at home Friday afternoon against Spring Creek.

KINSTON -- Parrott Academy pitcher Brick Crowder recorded 10 strikeouts and limited Wayne Country Day to three hits in a 5-2, non-conference win Tuesday afternoon.

Crowder allowed three runs (two earned) to go along with four walks.

Cory Robert led the Chargers with a double. Sam Steed and Joseph Cha each contributed one hit.

"We need to swing the bats better when we play teams like Parrott," said WCDS coach Michael Taylor. "But, overall, I was pleased with the effort. We have no seniors on the team, so I am looking for someone to step up and take charge."

Trent Langston posted two strikeouts in a two-inning stint and suffered the pitching loss. Ryan Ford threw four innings of six-strikeout, one-run relief.

Wayne Country Day (2-1) entertains Rosewood at 4 p.m. Thursday.

WILSON -- Cameron George, Montez Ham and Dalton Denning each claimed individual victories during Tuesday afternoon's Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference meet at Wilson Beddingfield.

The trio helped the Golden Falcons amass 54 points. Beddingfield and Eastern Wayne tied with 66 points each.

George won the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet. Ham posted a distance of 19-1 in the long jump, while Denning took the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 13 seconds.

C.B. Aycock prevailed in the 1,600 relay, and finished second in the 400 and 3,200 relays. The 1,600 relay of Carson Sasser, Daniel Pennington, Jacob Pendleton and anchor-leg man Spruce Lee turned in a time of 3:48.

take ECC opener

WILSON -- The Eastern Wayne girls' track team swept the relays and seized six individual victories in its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Beddingfield.

The Warriors posted a meet-winning 93 points, compared to 54 for the Bruins. C.B. Aycock also participated and scored 33 points.

Kihmari Lawson won the discus with a throw of 80 feet, eight inches. Richelle Butler notched a first-place toss of 29-4 in the shot put.

Noelle Kelly claimed the top time in the 400-meter run (1 minute, 6 seconds). LaNiece Sims (300 hurdles), Tiara Campbell (800) and Eugenia Baker (200) also earned first-place wins.

Alysa Artis ran the opening leg on each relay. Sims, Campbell, Baker, Niki Allen, Jenita Allen, Nicole Costen and Kelly Gregorayck also participated on the winning relays.

Eastern Wayne (2-0 ECC) is the guest of Greenville Rose on Thursday.

The Hawks' No. 2 tandem of Clinton O'Dell-Taylor Holmes rolled past Sean Anglin-Webb Laroque 8-1. The No. 3 team of Levin Jones-Ryan Kramer stopped the Vikings' Trey Gray-Greg Rouse 8-5.

Rosewood's second-seeded tandem of Ty Johnson-Daniel Ellis survived a tough challenge and helped the Eagles defeat Southern Wayne 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson-Ellis slipped past the Saints' John Stedman-Andy Wice 8-6.

The Eagles led 4-2 after singles play concluded. Johnson, Ellis, Drew Kriger and Trevor Morris each claimed a pro-set (eight-game) victory. Morris outlasted Chris King 9-8 (4) at the No. 6 slot.

Jonathan Hartley and Preston Grantham each emerged victorious for the Saints in singles. They also teamed together for a win at No. 1 doubles.

Rosewood exited 5-1 overall.

Ross Wilson, David Wilson, Byron Bryan, George Mayo, Luxman Srikantha and Fred Ho emerged with singles wins for the Chargers (2-0). The same six players accounted for the Chargers' three wins in doubles.

WCDS hosts T.E.A.C.H. today, while the Saints host Spring Creek.

Matt Davis carded an 18-hole score of 79 in Wayne Christian's 329-333, non-conference loss against Greenfield School at Walnut Creek Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The teams battled winds that averaged 20-25 miles per hour.

Greenfield's Stephen Harrison, the reigning N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A individual champion, turned in a splendid 2-under-par 70.

Clark Rose complemented Davis with an 80, followed by Chad Smith with an 86. Eric Williams and Andrew Radford each provided scores of 88 for the Eagles, the defending NCISAA 1-A team champion.

Wayne Christian returns to action next Monday at Village Christian.

Warren leads

SC past Rams

Spring Creek's Stephen Warren paced his team with a 74 as the Gators claimed a 317-324 win over Greene Central on Monday at Walnut Creek.

Pat Wilkens and Dustin Woods both shot 79 for Spring Creek, while Nathan Ford added an 88.

Greene Central's Brandon Jones shot a 77 to pace the Rams, while Josh Elmore (80), Colby Murphy (81) and Blake Sutton (86) also contributed to their teams score.

Spring Creek faces East Duplin at Walnut Creek on Thursday.

Rousay leads

Gators' effort

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Blake Rousay earned medalist honors with an 18-hole round of 81 in a four-team meet contested Tuesday afternoon at Sleepy Creek Golf Course.

Eastern Wayne claimed team honors with a four-player total of 376. The Gators finished second with 382, followed by C.B. Aycock (386) and Southern Wayne (416).

Nathan Ford completed Rousay's effort with a third-place score of 86. Graham Bennett provided a 107, while Sebastian Jackson carded a 108.

Carter Walchli led the Warriors with a runner-up score of 84 in windy conditions. Brandon Vinson shot an 89, followed by Eric Huetter (91) and Matt Letchworth (112).

Will Best emerged Southern Wayne's low scorer with a 100. Joe Phillips added a 101. Ren Dewitt carded a 105, while Chase Gardner shot an 18-hole total of 110.

C.P. Cranford paced the Golden Falcons with a 91. Heyward Jeffreys chipped in a 97. Blaine Stafford (98) and Keith Barnes (100) rounded out Aycock's scoring.

The Gators play again March 21 at Southern Wayne Country Club.

Spring Creek softball 17, Grantham 4 -- Hanna Hall and Sarah McCullom each had one hit for Spring Creek.

Eastern Wayne baseball 13 , Spring Creek 2 -- Cambric Moye, Josh Frederick and Johnathan Jenkins paced the Warriors on the mound. Frederick had four hits, while Jose Ponce, Moye and Michael Fields each had two hits. The Warriors (4-0) travel to Norwayne on Thursday.

Spring Creek softball 10, Eastern Wayne 5 -- Alyssa Potter had 10 strikeouts for the Gators (3-1), while Sarah McCollum had two doubles and scored two runs. Amy Parker added two hits and scored twice for Spring Creek. Lani Fricks had two hits and scored three times for the Warriors (3-1).
