Mount Olive women hope to end CVAC play with .500 record

Last season, Mount Olive's final regular season opponent was also the Trojans' opponent in the first round of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Tournament, resulting in the two teams facing each other twice in three days. Heading into Saturday's regular season finale, it could be deja vu all over again.

Mount Olive concludes regular season play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Banner Elk to take on Lees-McRae in CVAC women's basketball. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

Mount Olive (14-12 overall, 9-10 CVAC) enters Saturday's contest tied with St. Andrews for sixth place in the CVAC standings. The tie-breaker favors the Trojans, meaning a Mount Olive win or a St. Andrews loss Saturday gives the Trojans the No. 6 seed in the CVAC Tournament.

The Trojans assured themselves of a .500 season or better in Monday's 80-53 victory over Pfeiffer. Teneal Boone celebrated Senior Night by leading four players in double figures with 20 points. Mount Olive built a 22-point halftime lead and was never threatened in the second half.

Boone had her five-game double-double streak come to an end Monday, but continues to average a double-double with 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She leads the conference in blocked shots, ranks second in rebounding and eighth in scoring.

While Boone had a streak stopped Monday, freshman Tomeka Prichard extended her streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer to 14. Prichard is averaging 11.7 points per game during the streak.

Lees-McRae (11-14, 0-18) was in contention for a top-five seed in the conference tournament until the team was forced to forfeit its eight conference wins due to participation by an ineligible player. The Bobcats fell 78-62 Monday at Belmont Abbey. By NCAA rule, Lees-McRae's overall record remains unchanged.

If Mount Olive gains the No. 6 seed, the Trojans will play host to Lees-McRae in the first round of the CVAC Tournament Monday at 7 p.m. at Kornegay Arena. If Mount Olive loses at Lees-McRae and St. Andrews defeats Queens Saturday, the Trojans will be the No. 7 seed and play host to Queens Monday.

Last season, Mount Olive defeated Limestone in the regular season finale, then beat Limestone again two days later in the first round of the tournament.
