HICKORY -- The Mount Olive baseball team held Lenoir-Rhyne College scoreless in a doubleheader sweep, 10-0 and 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Bears Field. The Trojans also limited the Bears to just seven hits total on the day and picked up their third shutout in the last four games.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead after three innings in the opener, Mount Olive broke the contest open with six runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to the win.

Three Lenoir-Rhyne errors led to four unearned runs in the inning.

David Cooper laced a two-run triple in the second inning to get things going for the Trojans before Stephen Nordan and Josh Carter added two-run doubles in Mount Olive's decisive, six-run fourth inning.

Carter led the Trojans with two hits and three runs batted in the contest while three Mount Olive pitchers combined on the four-hit shutout. Justin Staatz improved to 2-1 with the win while Lenoir-Rhyne freshman T.J. Worrell fell to 1-1 with the loss.

In the nightcap, the Trojans (8-3) again took control early with a run in the first inning and added two fourth-inning insurance runs in shutting the Bears (5-5) out for the second straight contest.

Carter tallied an RBI groundout in the first inning and Mount Olive scored two unearned runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Dustin Richardson and a run-scoring from Anthony Williams.

Three Mount Olive pitchers, once again, combined to keep L-R off the scoreboard with Paul Buhrow (2-0) picking the win and Donald Huff pitching a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the year.

Junior Jesse Jordan (3-1) lost his first game of the year despite going the distance and allowing just one earned run. Jordan scattered nine hits and struck out four batters in the setback as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Belmont Abbey while Mount Olive entertains Shaw in the teams' next games at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
