KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock's Quaneisha Milner scored a game-high 24 points, including a 12-point barrage late in the second quarter, as the Golden Falcons defeated Wilson Hunt, 50-42, in the semifinals of the Class 3-A Eastern Conference tournament on Wednesday at Kinston High.

The win sends Aycock (16-8) into the ECC title game against undefeated Wilson Beddingfield on Friday at Southern Wayne, and it helped the Falcons secure the conference's second spot for the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs next week. Aycock and Hunt split a pair of regular season meetings and finished the conference schedule with identical, 7-3 records -- tied for second. Wednesday's semifinal game was the tie-breaker.

Milner's scoring barrage came with three minutes left in the first half as she drained three, 3-pointers and added an old-fashioned 3-point play to help the Falcons take a 24-18 lead into intermission.

"It was a time we needed a spurt, and she took over the game on the offensive end," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "We had trailed by five points and were playing catching until we hit that spurt."

Midway through the fourth, Hunt cut the deficit to 43-39 but the Lady Warriors never got any closer.

Milner finished with four, 3-pointers and six assists, while Emily Stewart chipped in eight points and nine rebounds. Erin Medford added six points, nine rebounds and six assists as Jasmine Dobbin had four points and nine boards.

Chesla Atkinson and Brandy Williams led Hunt (13-12) with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

in tourney semis

DURHAM -- Wayne Christian freshman Brooke Norris had 11 points and eight rebounds in the Eagles' 48-31 loss at Cresset Christian in the semifinals of the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament on Tuesday.

Wayne Christian finished the season with a 9-17 overall record.

Senior Stacie McCary added nine points and three rebounds, while sophomore Hope Wright added four points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
