Mount Olive women look for 11th victory

In its last two games, the Mount Olive women's basketball team has played well enough to win, but has run up against teams that caught fire in the second half. Saturday, the Trojans will face a team that seems to be on fire 40 minutes a game as of late.

Mount Olive heads to Anderson, S.C., Saturday as the Trojans take on Anderson in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

Mount Olive (10-9 overall, 5-7 CVAC) is coming off a 76-74 loss at St. Andrews Monday. The Trojans rallied from a 10-point first half deficit and built a nine-point lead in the second half, but St. Andrews hit 4-of-5 three-pointers after intermission to spark a comeback.

In the Trojans' previous game, Limestone shot 65.2 percent from the field in the second half, including 5-for-8 three-pointers, to down Mount Olive 82-72. The Trojans had led by as many as 16 in the first half.

Senior forward Teneal Boone continues to pace the Trojans, averaging a double-double with 15.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Boone posted her ninth double-double of the season Monday with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Boone remains the only Trojan averaging more than 10 points per game, but freshman guard Tomeka Prichard is creeping up toward double figures. Prichard, who came within one point of matching a career-high Monday with 19 points, is averaging 9.3 points per game for the season and almost 14 points per contest over her last seven games.

Sophomore point guard Keona Corley ranks third in the CVAC in assists with a 5.5 average per game and ranks eighth in steals with 2.2 per contest. Corley missed part of the second half Monday after suffering an injury to her non-shooting arm, but was able to return to the game. She's listed as probable for Saturday.

Anderson (16-3, 12-1) defeated Lees-McRae 106-65 Thursday. Anderson has won 14 of its last 15 games, with the lone defeat a one-point loss at Division I College of Charleston.

Mount Olive fell to Anderson 81-71 in the two teams' first meeting in January at Kornegay Arena. Freshman Alisa Jones recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount Olive has dropped from fourth to eighth place in the CVAC standings over the past week, but the Trojans are only a game-and-a-half out of third place. Anderson is first in the conference standings.

Monday, Mount Olive plays host to second-place Barton at Kornegay Arena.
