Braswell sparks Rosewood's non-conference victory

Kasie Braswell pumped in a game-high 18 points and paced Rosewood to a 49-28, non-conference victory over Union on Wednesday evening.

Courtney Hill added 12 points for the Eagles, who led 14-1 after one quarter and 30-6 at halftime.

Clare Narron contributed seven points and Kasey Grey chipped in six. Overall, seven players scored for Rosewood, which picked up its 15th victory in 18 outings.

The Eagles can clinch at least a share of the Class 1-A Carolina Conference title with a victory today at Spring Creek.

Middle schools

Norwayne girls 15, Rosewood 7 -- Beth Carter and Nicole Kessler led the Cobras with four points apiece. Taylor Johnson emerged Rosewood's top scorer with four points. Norwayne (12-2) finished second overall in Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II play at 6-2.

Eastern Wayne boys 50, Brogden 20 -- Will White led the Warriors with a double-double -- 14 points, 13 rebounds. Jakar Kelly contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, while Hassan Best added nine points and nine assists. Lorenzo Alford led the Rams with 11 points. Eastern Wayne (14-0) claimed its second consecutive WCMSAC Division I title with an 8-0 worksheet.

Greenwood girls 50, Dillard 20 -- Tia Jones provided a game-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for the T-Birds. Teammate Tiarra McIntyre added 12 points and dished out five assists. Akeyanna Whitler paced Dillard with 13 points. Greenwood (14-0) claimed the WCMSAC Division I crown with an 8-0 mark.

Norwayne boys 58, Rosewood 37 -- Tyheim Pitt knocked down 15 points for the Cobras, who finished 11-3 overall and 5-3 against WCMSAC Division II competition. Dylan Quinn and Connor Narron each added eight points in the regular-season finale.

Greenwood boys 47, Dillard 44 -- Danny Smith led the T-Birds with 18 points, while Matthew Houston contributed 11 points. Greenwood ended the year 5-9 and 2-6 in WCMSAC Division II play.

Goldsboro girls 39, Mount Olive 32 -- Zeara McDuffie tallied 13 points and Lakiyah Campbell chipped in 12 as Goldsboro seized the WCMSAC Division I crown Thursday afternoon. The Cougars, who defeated Grantham on Monday, finished 8-0 in the division and 10-4 overall.
