Bunn, Rosewood collect Carolina 1-A Conference win

CALYPSO -- Kyle Bunn buried three 3-pointers and tallied a game-high 24 points as Rosewood rallied past North Duplin 62-52 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play Tuesday evening.

North Duplin owned a 29-24 lead at halftime, but the Eagles put 38 points on the board in the second half.

"The second half we seemed to pick things up a little bit and executed better," said Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell. "We rebounded the ball well and did a good job of knocking down our free throws. It was a good team effort for us."

Rosewood converted 23 of 29 free throws.

Holt Rains added 11 points for the Eagles, who picked up their second Carolina win in five tries.

Montreal Garner led the Rebels with 18, while Chris Graham chipped in 10.

Rosewood (4-12) travels to Farmville Central today. The Rebels (0-11, 0-5 Carolina) begin second-half league action Friday at North Johnston.

Cougars take

over EPC lead

BETHEL -- Goldsboro High claimed sole possession of first place on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference scene with a 65-63 conquest of North Pitt on Tuesday evening.

The Cougars (10-8) seized the top perch at 3-1 after North Lenoir's two-point loss against archrival Greene Central.

"We did a great job in the second half on both ends of the glass," said fifth-year Goldsboro coach Randy Jordan. "They outrebounded us in the first half and we outrebound them in the second half. That was the difference along with foul shooting.

"We got great efforts from everyone. Any road win in conference play is very important to you and we're pleased to get that win."

Daquan Joyner posted a double-double -- 21 points, 14 rebounds -- and blocked six shots. Junior co-captain Tim Kornegay provided 19 points. Joe Houpe helped Joyner on the boards and snagged nine rebounds.

Brandon Herring picked the Panthers for five steals, while Raheem Lofton handed out six assists.

Juante Johnson led three North Pitt players in double figures with 16 points. Josh Jones added 14 and Antoine Williams chipped in 11.

Goldsboro begins second-half conference play Friday at Tarboro High.

CCC 1-A road win

ERWIN -- Nick Woods shot a sterling 15 of 17 at the free throw line and tallied a game-high 23 points in Wayne Christian's 44-38 victory over Cape Fear Christian in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

T.A. Brannan and Adam Brannan chipped in nine and five points, respectively, for the Eagles.

Wayne Christian (11-9, 6-4 CCC) entertains Hobgood Academy on Thursday.

PRINCETON -- Ryan Daughtry emerged the lone Princeton player in double figures with a game-high 22 points in a 68-48 loss against Ayden-Grifton in Carolina 1-A Conference action Tuesday.

Tanner Carnes led three Chargers in double figures with 16 points. James Green added 12, while Leon May scored 10.

Princeton (7-12, 1-4) is the guest of Spring Creek on Friday.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Faith Christian remained unbeaten on the N.C. Christian Schools Coastal 2-A Region scene with a 72-52 rout of Berean Baptist Academy on Tuesday evening.

T.J. Sasser pumped in 20 points for the Conquerors, who rose to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the region. Aaron Sladick added 19 points and Josh Brannan chipped in 10.

Faith Christian entertains Gateway (Va.) Christian on Friday.

Gators endure

Carolina defeat

KENLY -- Dalreese Bell poured in a game-high 24 points in Spring Creek's 61-54 road loss at North Johnston in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday evening.

Josh Wright added 16 for the Gators, who slipped to 7-12 overall and 3-2 in the league.

"(We) could not hit baskets, but stayed in the ball game," said Spring Creek coach Sonny Kilpatrick. "A technical called on the Spring Creek coach with about two minutes left may have been the deciding factor."

Willie Jones led the Panthers with 20 points.

Spring Creek entertains Princeton on Friday.

BETHEL -- Goldsboro High snapped a three-game skid in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 42-41 victory over North Pitt on Tuesday evening.

Chevoya Jackson tallied 23 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Cougars, who improved to 1-3 in the EPC.

Kianna Williams provided 10 points. Angel Roberts contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

Goldsboro (9-8, 1-3 EPC) travels to Tarboro on Friday.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Faith Christian held Berean Baptist Academy scoreless in the final quarter and pulled out a 25-17 victory in a N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A Region contest Tuesday evening.

Elizabeth Clarke led a balanced offensive attack with eight points. Lindsey Godwin chipped in five. Renee Provencal, Alyssa Hill and Natalie Thibeaux each scored four points.

Faith Christian (9-5) grabbed sole possession of second place in the Coastal Region at 5-2.

On Monday, Thibeaux emerged the top scorer with 17 points in a 45-26 victory over NCCSA Coastal foe Liberty Christian-Fayetteville. Clarke pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out five assists.

Provencal provided eight points.

Faith Christian entertains Gateway (Va.) Christian on Friday.

ERWIN -- Logan Dawson grabbed team-high scoring honors for Wayne Christian with 10 points in a 54-21 loss at Cape Fear Christian on Tuesday evening.

Wayne Christian (7-13) dipped to 4-5 against Carolina 1-A Christian opposition. Michelle Krug added five points and Hope Wright scored three points.

The Eagles entertain Hobgood in non-conference play Thursday.

Rosewood routs

North Duplin

CALYPSO -- Courtney Hill paced three players in double figures with 17 points and Rosewood remained unbeaten in Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 62-38 rout of North Duplin.

Clare Narron pumped in 15 points and Shanita Monroe delivered 13 for the Eagles, who climbed to 5-0 in league play.

"I thought we played very hard tonight," said North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn. "We just had a couple of bad stretches in the second and third quarters. You can't do that against a good team like Rosewood."

Lauren Blackmore knocked down four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points. Sierra Ward added 15 for the Rebels, who dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Rosewood (12-2) travels to Farmville Central today.

Tasha Whitfield added seven points for the Gators, who fell to 3-16 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Shanice Williams led the Panthers with 18 points. Taylor Allen scored 11, while Stephanie Norris chipped in nine.

BETHEL -- Jamal Rouse led four Goldsboro High players in double figures with 16 points in a nail-biting 68-66 victory over North Pitt in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play Tuesday.

Jamison Wellington added 15 for the Cougars, who rebounded from a disappointing league loss against North Lenoir on Friday. Tayvon Murchison contributed 12 points and Kevonta McDuffie chipped in 11.

Goldsboro (9-5, 3-1 EPC) travels to Tarboro on Friday.

CALYPSO -- Joey Boyette tallied 16 points in Rosewood's 50-47 victory over North Duplin in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

Joseph Person added eight points for the Eagles, who improved to 2-3 in the Carolina Conference and 6-8 overall.

Quinton Graham and Bryce Jones scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Rebels.

PIKEVILLE -- Darian Cahill emerged the top scorer with 21 points in Eastern Wayne's 61-49 victory over Charles B. Aycock in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

Dwight Ulmer added 11 points for the Warriors, now 4-1 in the ECC and 11-4 overall.

Michael King led the Golden Falcons with 14 points.

Eastern Wayne entertains archrival Southern Wayne on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at New Hope.

ERWIN -- Eric Williams posted his 15th double-double of the season with 12 points and an astounding 24 rebounds in Wayne Christian's 43-25 victory over Cape Fear Christian.

Williams also dished out eight assists for the Eagles.

Colton Woods recorded 10 points and four steals. John Norris added eight points and handed out four assists.

LaGRANGE -- LaQuita Holmes paced Goldsboro High's offense with 18 points in a 44-35 loss against North Pitt on Tuesday afternoon.

Holmes scored 12 in a 55-25 loss at North Lenoir earlier this week.

Goldsboro (2-12) remained winless in three Eastern Plains 2-A Conference games.

Virginia Best collected 18 points and Molly Peacock scored nine in Wayne Country Day's 38-18 victory over Greenfield in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference play Tuesday.

Best picked the Knights for five steals. Peacock pulled down eight rebounds.

Dominique Sadler pulled down 11 rebounds, while Landon Case dished out nine assists. Eastern Wayne (11-0) entertains Mount Olive on Thursday.

Wayne Country Day boys 48, Greenfield 21 -- Brandon Davis and Cameron Ford led the Chargers with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Wayne Country Day (10-3) remained unbeaten in five Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference games, and is the guest of Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Friday.
