HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Anita Rogers led four players in double figures with a career-high 18 points and Teneal Boone scored on three consecutive possessions late in the game to halt a rally as Mount Olive defeated Coker 73-64 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball Monday evening.

The win, along with losses by Belmont Abbey and St. Andrews, moves the Trojans into sole possession of third place in the CVAC standing.

Mount Olive (10-6 overall, 5-4 CVAC) took the lead for good two minutes into the contest as Ebony Green's three-pointer sparked a 13-2 run and gave the Trojans a double-digit lead. Coker (4-11, 3-6) pulled within 20-17 on a pair of free throws by Tyesha Ervin with 10:03 left before halftime. Coker was 7-for-7 from the line in the first half.

Mount Olive answered with a run of 10 unanswered points, highlighted by three-pointers by Rogers and Meaghan Vanderhorst as the Trojans led 30-17 with 7:02 remaining. Coker never got any closer than eight points and Rogers' basket with 17 seconds remaining gave Mount Olive a 44-31 halftime lead.

Tomeka Prichard, who was held scoreless in the first half after sitting out most of the half with two fouls, scored five of the Trojans' first seven points in the second half. Rogers then scored seven points in a span of 77 seconds as her three-pointer with 14:37 left in the game to give Mount Olive its biggest lead at 58-36.

"Coach (Wendy Lee) told me to take the shot when it's there," said Rogers. "The shots were falling tonight."

After a timeout, Coker scored on each of its next five possessions before Prichard's three-pointer stopped a 10-0 Cobra run. Coker pulled within 63-52 on Tara Nelson's three-pointer with 7:30 remaining, but Sierra Medeiros hit back-to-back baskets to extend the Trojans' lead to 15.

Coker cut the lead to single digits for the first time in the second half after India Elliot's two free throws pull the Cobras within 67-58 with 3:47 left in the contest.

Boone then took over for Mount Olive, putting back a missed shot to put the lead back to double figures, then sandwiching a pair of field goals around a Coker basket to give the Trojans a 73-60 lead with 1:33 remaining and end the Cobras' threat.

Boone finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Mount Olive, while Green and Vanderhorst finished with 10 points apiece. Both players scored all of their points in the first half.

Nelson led Coker with a game-high 19 points, while Ervin added 17 points and Elliot finished with 13.

Mount Olive returns to action Thursday as the Trojans travel to Misenheimer to take on Pfeiffer in a CVAC tilt. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
