WCDS finishes 1-1 at Wake Christian tourney
RALEIGH -- Wayne Country Day finished 1-1 last weekend at a tournament hosted by Wake Christian.
The Chargers (12-5) claimed the consolation game with a 71-56 win over North Raleigh as Tavon Waters led the way with 22 points and seven assists.
Adam Wright turned in a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, while Jeff Franklin had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Shadoe Stewart and Cameron Strickland added nine points each for WCDS.
Last Friday, the Chargers trailed Wake Christian by 18 points with three minutes left and rallied all the way back to tie the game on a 3-pointer by Waters near the one-minute mark. Eventually, Wake Christian held on for a 67-65 victory as the dramatic WCDS comeback fell just short.
Waters poured in 25 points and dished out eight assists against Wake, while Wright scored 19 points with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Franklin contributed the first-of-two double-doubles with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Chargers return to action tonight at Wayne Christian.

SC takes third
at Devilpup tournament
CAMP LEJEUNE -- Spring Creek's wrestlers took third at a tournament held at Camp LeJeune last weekend.
The Gators and the host Devilpups, along with Durham School of the Arts and North Brunswick, participated in the tourney.
Spring Creek returns to action on Thursday at home against Princeton.
