Hayman triumphs in King Pin Scratch Open

Published in Sports on January 16, 2006 2:02 PM

Quincy Hayman, a Wilson native, finished first in the King Pin Scratch Open -- a two-day event held at AMF Boulevard Lanes over the weekend.

Hayman won $5,000 for claiming the top spot.

There were 167 total entries, and the last squad did not finish the event until 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Scores were very tough with a 196 average for four games making the cut to the top 16. Bowlers from as close as right here in Goldsboro and as far away as Denver, Colorado competed in the Open.

Of nearly 20 local entries, Goldsboro native Dave Douglas proved to be the only local bowler to make the top 16. Douglas finished eighth overall and won $485.

The event's director, Clarke Hill, anticipates AMF Boulevard Lanes will host the event again in 2007.
