Eastern Wayne picked up its first Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference win of the season -- holding off Wilson Beddingfield 67-64 on Friday night in New Hope.

The Warriors (7-8 overall) improved to 1-2 in the ECC, while the Bruins (6-9 overall) fell to 1-2 in league play.

Darryl Cowan dropped in 21 points to lead four Eastern Wayne players in double figures. D'Adrian Worrell added 13 points for the Warriors, while Lamar Davis dropped in 12 and Reco McCarter added 11.

Eastern Wayne trailed 64-61 with three seconds left, but closed the game with an 6-0 run -- keyed by a 3-pointer by Davis and three makes at the line by Worrell to claim the hard-fought win.

"We played a complete game tonight. Lamar Davis hit a 3-pointer down the stretch to give us cushion and D'Adrian Worrell hit two big free throws," Eastern Wayne coach Marvin Bowman said. "Darryl Cowan did a great job defensively and offensively."

Mike Anderson, who missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the game, finished with 18 points for Beddingfield, while Dustin Murray had 13 points and Brian McNair scored 12.

The Warriors take a break from ECC play to face James Kenan in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Aycock remains

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock's Rob Phillips emerged the lone Golden Falcon in double digits with 16 points as the Golden Falcons suffered a 45-31 loss to Wilson Hunt in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Friday.

Aycock (4-12 overall) dropped to 0-3 in the ECC heading into next Friday's game at home against Southern Wayne. The Warriors (7-8 overall) improved to 2-1 in conference play.

Larell Shipman (13 points) and Anthony Lewis (12 points) emerged as the offensive leaders for Hunt.

The Golden Falcons finished with just eight points in the first half and missed their first 18 shots overall, but battled back to tie the game at 24-24 in the third quarter. Hunt countered with a 9-0 run in the late stages of the third and early fourth quarters.

Rebels fall

to Chargers

AYDEN -- North Duplin's Terrel Midyette dropped in 13 points to lead the Rebels in a 70-52 loss at Ayden-Grifton in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play on Friday.

North Duplin (0-9 overall) dropped to 0-3 in the league heading into Friday's contest at Spring Creek. The Chargers (7-7 overall) improved to 3-0.

Montreal Garner, Doug Lloyd and Chris Graham added 10 points each for North Duplin, which had a 13-9 lead after one period. The Chargers, led by Jaquan Nobles with 20 points, bounced back to outscore the Rebels 61-39 in the final three quarters.

Tanner Carnes added 15 points for Ayden-Grifton.

Panthers pound

KENLY -- Princeton's Ryan Daughtry scored 16 points and was one of only three Bulldogs to get in the scoring column in a 54-24 loss at North Johnston on Friday.

Princeton actually led 12-10 early in the second quarter, before the Panthers went on a 20-0 run during the rest of the first half and early in the second half.

Willie Smith scored 17 points for North Johnston, while teammate Brandon Sanders scored 13.

The Bulldogs (7-10 overall) slipped to 1-2 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play and travel to rival Rosewood next Friday. The Panthers (5-5 overall) improved to 3-0 in the league.

SNOW HILL -- Goldsboro's Kevonta McDuffie posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and led four Cougars in double figures in a 63-61 win at Greene Central on Friday.

Leonard Compton added 14 points and five assists for Goldsboro, while Jameson Wellington scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Jamal Rouse had 11 points and five steals. Meanwhile, Eric Sinclair had eight points and seven blocks for the Cougars (8-4, 2-0 Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference).

Goldsboro, which shot 20-33 from the floor, returns to action on Friday at home against North Lenoir.

Eastern Wayne's Darius Wilder erupted for 33 points and 22 rebounds as the Warriors defeated Wilson Beddingfield 71-54 at home on Friday.

Eastern Wayne (9-3 overall) improved to 3-0 in Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Jamere Thomas added 10 points and five rebounds for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne returns to action on Wednesday at James Kenan in non-conference play.

Falcons battle

past Hunt

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Quaneisha Milner pumped in 21 points as the Golden Falcons erased a second-quarter deficit to defeat Wilson Hunt, 56-44 on Friday in the Warriors' gymnasium.

Aycock (10-6, 2-1 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) trailed 22-11 early in the second quarter as Hunt's Brandi Williams proved tough in the paint with 16 first half points. The deeper Golden Falcons battled back to take their first lead at 31-30 on a Jasmine Dobbin shot at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Aycock held Williams to only one point, while Falcon forwards Erin Medford (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Emily Stewart (eight points, seven rebounds) played solid defense and controlled the glass.

"We did a really good job on the boards in the last half and limited them to one shot. I thought our perimeter defense was also as good as its been all year," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "Our depth also paid off, because we were able to get a lot of easy transition baskets in the second half."

The Golden Falcons finished 24-of-47 from the floor (52 percent) as they won their seventh game in nine outings.

Aycock returns to action next Friday at home against Southern Wayne.

RALEIGH -- Faith Christian's Lindsey Godwin scored a team-best eight points in the Conquerors' 32-19 loss at Raleigh Christian on Friday in non-conference action.

Faith trailed just 23-18 after three quarters, but scored just one point in the fourth as the Eagles pulled away late.

Joy Rabon led Raleigh Christian with nine points.

Elizabeth Clarke added six points for Faith, while Amie Hill pulled down seven rebounds.

The Conquerors return to action on Tuesday at home against Falls Road in a N.C. Christian Schools Association, Coastal Region game.

Wilson Beddingfield improved to 15-0 overall and 3-0 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference with a 90-28 win at Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Yasmine Washington scored 12 points to lead the Lady Warriors (1-14 overall), who slipped to 0-3 in the ECC.

Jean Best and October Harris dropped in 21 points to lead the Bruins, who led 27-5 after the first quarter.

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday at James Kenan in non-conference play.

Rebels outlast

AYDEN -- North Duplin's Sierra Ward poured in a game-high 30 points as the Rebels kept Ayden-Grifton winless after a 49-45 win at the Chargers' gymnasium on Friday.

North Duplin (5-4 overall) improved to 1-2 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference heading into next Friday's game at Spring Creek. Ayden-Grifon (0-13 overall) dipped to 0-3 in league play.

The Rebels trailed 37-35 after three quarters, but rallied to outscore the home team 14-8 in the final quarter.

"I'm very proud of the effort and hustle of my team tonight. There were several times that things didn't go our way, but we didn't hang our heads," North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn said. "Ayden-Grifton was ready to play, and they played well. Coach Crumpler has done a tremendous job at A-G."

Erin Savidge and Krystal Williams led the Lady Chargers with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
