Sullivan paces Eagle girls to third straight win

Brittany Sullivan led a balanced offensive attack and Wayne Christian extended its winning streak to three games with a 34-30, non-conference conquest of Rocky Mount Prep on Thursday.

Sullivan dished out three assists and picked the Jaguars for three steals.

Katie Daniels provided eight points and 11 rebounds, including seven boards in the second half. Michelle Krug chipped in six points. Hope Wright emerged the team's top rebounder with 13.

Wayne Christian (5-11) entertains Norlina Christian in a Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference game Saturday.

GHS contest

rescheduled

Goldsboro High athletics director Randy Jordan announced Friday morning that next Monday's home game with Farmville Central has been rescheduled for a later date. The Cougars are the guest of Greene Central today. The junior varsity boys' game is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.

hit double figures

Jordan Yelverton led four Wayne Christian players in double figures with 16 points in a 51-36, non-conference victory over Rocky Mount Prep at Clifford Gymnasium.

T.A. Brannan notched a double-double -- 11 points, 10 rebounds -- for the Eagles. Nick Woods and Adam Brannan each supplied 10 points.

Wayne Christian (9-7) plays host to Carolina 1-A Christian opponent Norlina Christian on Saturday.

collects 11th win

Kayla Kennedy pumped in a game-high 12 points in Wayne Christian's 28-3 victory over Rocky Mount Prep.

Hanna Kaler added six points. Charlie Ipock and Sterling Coggins, who had four steals, each tallied four points.

The Eagles (11-1) put their perfect 5-0 Carolina Christian mark on the line Saturday against Norlina Christian.

Middle schools

Norwayne boys 61, Grantham 33 -- Tyheem Pitt and Anderson Barnes collected 16 and 10 points, respectively, for the Cobras. David Gurganus added eight points. Devondre Johnson and Justin Grady knocked down 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Grantham. Norwayne (8-1) is the guest of Brogden next Thursday afternoon.

Goldsboro girls 34, Spring Creek 24 -- Zeara McDuffie paced Goldsboro's attack with a game-high 17 points. Goldsboro (5-4) remained unbeaten in five Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II games and entertains Dillard next Thursday afternoon.

Norwayne girls 34, Grantham 9 -- Beth Carter led the Cobras with a game-high 16 points. Kayla Powell emerged the Bulldogs' top scorer with four points. The Cobras improved to 8-1 overall and visit Brogden next Thursday afternoon.

Dillard boys 61, Mount Olive 41 -- Braddock Gross led three Dillard players in double figures with a game-high 21 points. Demetrio Irby added 11 and Joshua Dortch chipped in 10. Justin Artis paced Mount Olive's attack with 10 points. Dillard (8-1, 5-0 WCMSAC Division II) travels to Goldsboro next Thursday afternoon.

Eastern Wayne boys 61, Rosewood 13 -- Dominique Sadler recorded a double-double -- 11 points, 12 rebounds -- for the Warriors. Johnathan Midgette added 10 points and six steals. Hassan Best provided 10 points, Will White contributed eight points and 10 rebounds. Rosewood's top scorer was Will Beasley with six points. Eastern Wayne (9-0) visits Greenwood next Thursday afternoon.
