Union sweeps Rebels

CLINTON -- North Duplin's Lauren Blackmore scored a team-best 19 points as the Rebels suffered a 55-50 loss at Union in non-conference action on Wednesday.

The Rebels (4-4) took a 28-17 lead into halftime, only to see the Spartans outscore them 38-22 after intermission. North Duplin managed just nine points in the fourth quarter.

"A pitful fourth-quarter performance doomed us again. We start the fourth quarter with a 12-point lead, and we just quit doing the things that got us to that point," North Duplin coach Danny Blackburn said. "Give Union credit though, they hit four, 3-pointers and go 8-of-10 from the line in the fourth. We've got to learn how to play hard everytime down the court."

Sierra Ward added 16 points for the Rebels, who return to Class 1-A Carolina Conference action at Ayden-Grifton on Friday.

Union's Jennifer Bright led all scorers with 24 points, while teammates Brambley Stanley and Sasha Millington added 17 and 12 points, respectively.
