Bunch FT lifts Princeton past North Duplin in OT

CALYPSO -- Patrick Bunch drained the game-winning free throw with four seconds left in overtime and propelled Princeton past North Duplin 58-57 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference action Tuesday evening.

North Duplin led 48-40 in the fourth quarter, but Bunch capped an 8-0 run with the game-tying basket at the end of regulation. The Bulldogs outscored the Rebels 10-9 in overtime.

Ryan Daughtry emerged Princeton's leading scorer with 19 points. Taylor Lane, who tied the game at 57-57 in overtime, added 13 points and seven rebounds. Bunch finished with six points and nine rebounds.

Chris Graham led three North Duplin players in double figures with 17 points. Terrell Midgette added 11 and Doug Lloyd chipped in 10.

Princeton (7-9, 1-1 Carolina) travels to county rival North Johnston on Friday. North Duplin (0-7, 0-2) is the guest of Union today and continues Carolina Conference play Friday at Ayden-Grifton.

beats Rebels

CALYPSO -- Princeton teammates Stephanie Daughtry and C.C. Sanders shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points in the Bulldogs' 45-37 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin.

The Bulldogs (10-4) remained unbeaten in two Carolina Conference outings heading into Friday's contest at county archrival North Johnston. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m.

Sarah Gibbs complemented Daughtry and Sanders with a nine-point effort.

Meanwhile, the Rebels suffered from poor free throw shooting (5 of 19) and committed 30 turnovers. North Duplin (4-3) suffered its third consecutive loss and is still seeking its first conference win of 2006.

Lauren Blackmore emerged the Rebels' top scorer with 11 points.

Chargers roll

past St. Mary's

Kim Martel tallied a team-leading 11 points and pulled down four rebounds in Wayne Country Day's 43-15, non-conference victory over St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon.

Bre Raeford added eight points and nine rebounds.

The Chargers (3-3) are the guest of county rival Wayne Christian next Tuesday afternoon.

Williams gets

double-double

Eric Williams posted his 11th double-double -- 23 points, 15 rebounds -- of the season in Wayne Christian's 50-8 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Community Christian at Clifford Gymnasium.

Adam Combs added 11 points and four rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 4-1 against CCC opposition. Justin Brathwaite provided six points and four rebounds.

Wayne Christian (7-4) plays host to CCC foe Norlina Christian on Saturday.

Saints collect

ECC road win

WILSON -- Six Southern Wayne wrestlers recorded falls as the Saints opened their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference schedule with a 51-30 victory over Wilson Hunt.

Dustin Richards (103 pounds), Josh Richards (135), Josh Woodall (140), Eric Futrell (145), Vic Darden (152) and heavyweight Josh Robinson each pinned their respective opponent.

Doogie Niemond and Tristan Bass each posted a technical fall.

John Futrell received a forfeit.

"Overall, we looked good," said first-year Southern Wayne coach Andy Sullivan. "We had to bump weights around to fill some holes we have, but our guys really got the job done."

The Saints (4-11, 1-0 ECC) return to action Saturday in the inaugural Battle at Little Big Horn at Eastern Wayne. First-round matches begin at 9 a.m.

up EPC victory

SNOW HILL -- Tim McNair collected his team-leading 16th individual victory and Greene Central turned back Tarboro High 40-30 in the Eastern Plains 2-A opener for both teams.

McNair, who wrestles at 152 pounds, pinned the Vikings' Quinton Whitehead in two minutes, 35 seconds.

Robert Phillips (125 pounds), Cameron Taylor (130), Jeffrey Shingleton (135), Chris Jones (140) and Daniel Vines each posted a victory for the Rams.

Greene Central (8-3, 1-0 EPC) is the guest of North Pitt on Friday.

Eastern Wayne boys 64, Greenwood 25 -- Jacar Kelly posted a double-double -- 14 points, 14 rebounds -- for unbeaten Eastern Wayne. Hassan Best provided 13 points and dished out six assists. Landon Case added 11 points and five steals. Will White contributed nine points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Danny Smith emerged Greenwood's top scorer with nine points. Eastern Wayne (8-0) improved to 4-0 against Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I competition. The Warriors travel to Rosewood on Thursday.

St. Mary's boys 36, Wayne Country Day 28 -- Brandon Davis paced the Chargers' offensive attack with 14 points. Cameron Ford tallied eight points. The Chargers (6-3) visit Wayne Christian next Tuesday afternoon.
