Warrior matmen pin Princeton

Eastern Wayne prevailed in six of eight contested matches and dealt short-handed Princeton a 61-12, non-conference defeat on the wrestling mats Tuesday evening in New Hope.

The Warriors (12-5) also received five forfeits from the Bulldogs, who weighed in just eight grapplers. The teams double forfeited at 103 pounds.

Sophomore Chris Tesar (119 pounds), A.J. Washington (135), Detori Mitchell (140), Cody Britt (145), Joey Burridge (152) and heavyweight Brandon Johnson each collected a win. Meanwhile, Jordan Harris (112), Brian Lincoln (160), Travis Turner (171), Tyler Wicks (189) and 215-pounder Foy Coley each drew a forfeit.

Tesar, now 29-0, scored a major decision against Brandon Baker. Burridge continued his march toward the 100-win mark with a second-period fall against Matt Blackwell. Washington, Mitchell and Britt each pinned their respective opponents.

Turner improved to 31-0 overall.

Princeton's Matt Wilkins pinned Romondo McEachern at 125 pounds and teammate Woodard followed with a third-period pin at 130.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Saturday in the Bulldog Bash, an individual tournament, at Nash Central High School.

ROBERSONVILLE -- Sophomore Ryan Daughtry pumped in a career-high 30 points in Princeton's 57-45 victory over Columbia in a two-day, four-team holiday tournament at Roanoke High School.

The Bulldogs (6-7) oppose Roanoke in the championship game today at 8:30 p.m.

Will Gainey added nine points for Princeton. Patrick Bunch contributed six points and a team-leading 12 rebounds.

Alex Manning led Columbia with 13 points.
