Eastern Wayne senior center Myles Pina made a solid debut as a starter -- posting 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks -- as the Warriors defeated Jacksonville 64-59 at home on Tuesday.

The Warriors saw a 12-point, third-quarter lead get trimmed down to one point with four minutes left, before holding on with solid free-throw shooting down the stretch.

"The difference for us was Myles Pina. He had a big debut as a starter. Monty Best also played very well with eight points and three assists," Eastern Wayne coach Marvin Bowman said. "We kept our composure and were able to get the win.

The Warriors finished with 10 steals on the game.

D'Adrian Worrell added 15 points for Eastern Wayne (5-4), while Darryl Cowan chipped in 10 points.

Michael Muqtasid led the Cardinals (6-4) with 22 points as teammate Ryan Johnson added 21.

The Warriors will take on former Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference foe, West Craven, on Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Kinston Free Press Christmas Tournament at North Lenoir High School. Spring Creek and North Lenoir play in the 8 p.m. game.

CBA falls on road

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Santavin Poole posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Golden Falcons suffered a 68-58 loss at Wilson Fike on Tuesday.

Lamada Williams added 13 points and eight assists for the Golden Falcons (4-8), while Rob Phillips contributed 11 points and six assists.

Aycock led 33-30 at halfime, before being outscored by 13 points after intermission.

King Farmer led Fike's balanced scoring effort with 14 points.

The Falcons return to action on Jan. 3 at Wayne Country Day.

PHS tallies home win

PRINCETON -- Princeton's Ryan Daughtry scored a game-high 16 points to help boost the Bulldogs to a 61-46 win at home over Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday.

Princeton's Adam Williams added 12 points as the Bulldogs improved to 5-7 on the season.

Princeton trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, but bounced back to take a 35-22 lead at the half. The Bulldogs finished a solid 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Princeton returns to action on Dec. 27-28 at the Roanoke Holiday Tournament. The Bulldogs face Columbia at 7 p.m. in the first round.

Aycock avenges loss

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock improved to 7-5 on the season with a 43-34 win at Wilson Fike on Tuesday -- avenging a loss earlier in the year to the Golden Demons.

Quaneisha Milner paced Aycock with 17 points and 10 steals, while teammate Emily Stewart had nine points and 15 rebounds. The Golden Falcons, who trailed 11-2 after the first quarter, finished with 20 steals as a team.

"We shot the ball poorly overall, but the real story was our full-court press," Aycock coach Luke Vail said. "We came out in the third quarter and created a lot of turnovers. We won the battle of the turnovers big."

The Falcons committed just eight turnovers on the game.

Aycock returns to the court on Jan. 3 at Wayne Country Day.

Martha White scored 21 points and tied for a team-leading nine rebounds to help the Cardinals double-up on Eastern Wayne for a 48-24 victory in a non-conference girls basketball game Tuesday night.

GHS improves to 7-2

Goldsboro's Javorious Simmons dropped in 25 points as the Cougars defeated Charles B. Aycock 60-54 on Tuesday.

Brian Nichols had a team-high 16 points for the Golden Falcons.

Goldsboro (7-2) travels to New Bern on Jan. 3.
