Wayne Christian's T.A. Brannan scored 34 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Eagles improved to 7-4 overall with a 67-58 win at home over Village Christian on Friday night.

Wayne Christian, now 3-1 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play, travels to Flora MacDonald on Thursday.

Adam Brannan added 10 points for the Eagles, while teammate Nick Woods filled the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood's Kyle Bunn posted a game-best 28 points, including seven, 3-pointers, in the Eagles' 74-60 loss at Midway on Friday.

Dennis Jones added nine points for Rosewood, which fell to 0-5 on the season.

Sean Bateman led the Raiders with 18 points, while teammate Josh Crumpler chipped in 15, including three, 3-pointers.

"Midway led by 20 in the second half. We fought, clawed and played hard and trimmed it down to nine, but we've got to improve defensively and do a better job of rebounding," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said.

Rosewood travels to Clinton to face Union High on Tuesday.

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood's Clare Narron scored 13 points for the Eagles, who dropped a 50-42 decision to Midway on Friday.

The loss was the second straight for Rosewood (3-2), which looks to get back on track on Tuesday at Union.

Ashley Brewington led the Lady Raiders with 20 points, while teammate Lauren Cochran notched 19 points.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian's Michelle Krug had eight points and five rebounds in the Eagles' 38-30 loss at Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Wayne Christian (2-8 overall) fell to 1-3 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play.

Brooke Norris added seven points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, who faced Village Christian on Friday.

C.B. Aycock

Goldsboro's Jamal Rouse and A.J. Fowler scored 13 points each as the Cougars defeated Charles B. Aycock 53-50 at the Cougar Den on Friday.

Leonard Compton added 10 points for Goldsboro (4-1), while Tavon Murcheson pulled down nine rebounds.

The Cougars face Eastern Wayne at home on Tuesday as the Golden Falcons travel to North Lenoir.

Eastern Wayne's Darian Cahil poured in 24 points to lead the Warriors in a 71-65 win at home over North Lenoir.

Jaquivas Williams added 12 points for Eastern Wayne (4-3), which travels to Goldsboro on Tuesday.

Chris McPhail and Paris Lee led North Lenoir with 13 points each, while Marcus Fogle posted 11 points.

Wayne Christian's Eric Williams turned in his eighth straight double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds, but the Eagles fell 69-66 in double overtime to Village Christian on Friday at home.

Wayne Christian's Brian Alexander added 18 points and 10 rebounds and drained three free throws near the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Adam Combs contributed 12 points for the Eagles (4-4, 2-1 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference), who travel to East Wake on Friday.

Wayne Christian remained unbeaten at 7-0 overall after a 36-17 win at Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Friday.

Hanna Kaler led the Eagles with 13 points, while Charlie Ipock added eight points.

Shaw adds

'summer job'

Mount Olive College head women's soccer coach Chris Shaw will add a "summer job," serving as head coach of the Atlanta Silverbacks' men's soccer franchise in the Premier Development League. The PDL, which is part of the United Soccer League, begins its inaugural season in April.

Shaw completed his third season at Mount Olive, guiding the Trojans to a berth in the championship game of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Women's Soccer Tournament in each of the last two years.

Mount Olive won the title in 2004 and was runner-up this season.

The Trojans have posted a 34-12 record over the past two seasons, including a 20-win season in 2004. Prior to Shaw's arrival, Mount Olive never had a winning season or advanced past the quarterfinal round of the CVAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Shaw was named 2004 CVAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

The PDL is the only national developmental soccer league in the country, according to a news release on the Atlanta Silverbacks website. The league is geared primarily for soccer players under the age of 23 and college players may participate while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.

The Silverbacks' 16-game schedule runs until August and includes a trip to Eastern North Carolina against the Raleigh Elite.

"Coach Shaw is a highly motivated coach," said Jason Smith, head coach of the Silverbacks' USL First Division Team. "I've worked with him in the past and I believe he's the right candidate for the new PDL team, which is designed to bridge the gap between our youth and our professional programs."

"It is an honor to be involved with an organization like the Atlanta Silverbacks," said Shaw. "I'm very impressed with their commitment to the game of soccer at all levels, and I'm excited about the opportunity they have presented me as the head coach of the Atlanta Silverbacks PDL team."

WCDS 35, Flora McDonald 4 -- Brandon Davis scored eight points for the Chargers (4-2), while Tanner Pate and Johnny Gallman added six points each. WCDS travels to Halifax Academy on Dec. 16.

Goldsboro 59, C.B. Aycock 41 -- Javorious Simmons had 17 points and Deandre Langston had 11 to lead the Cougars (5-1).
