Eagles' Brannan records sixth double-double of season

ROCKY MOUNT -- T.A. Brannan notched his sixth double-double of the season as Wayne Christian turned back Faith Christian of Rocky Mount 50-45 in non-conference action Thursday evening.

Brannan collected 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles, who rose to 6-4 overall. Teammate Matt Davis pumped in a team-high 19 points.

Wayne Christian entertains Village Christian in a Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference game today. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m. at Clifford Gymnasium.

Rebels drop

season opener

CALYPSO -- Zack Faircloth tickled the twine for a game-high 31 points as Lakewood rolled past North Duplin 76-44 on Wednesday evening.

It was the Rebels' season-opening game.

Ryan Killette led two North Duplin players in double figures with 11 points, while Terrell Midgett added 10. Montreal Garner chipped in nine.

The Rebels (0-1) travel to Hobbton today.

WILMINGTON -- New Hanover drained seven free throws in the final minute and handed Southern Wayne a 76-65, non-conference loss Wednesday evening.

The Saints trailed 67-65 with 50 seconds remaining in regulation and missed two free throws. The Wildcats, of the 3-A/4-A Mideastern Conference, scored to make it a two-possession game.

Forced to foul with time as an adversary, Southern Wayne put New Hanover on the free throw line. The Wildcats converted the opportunities and handed the Saints their first loss in four outings.

Akeem Royal led Southern Wayne with 29 points, while Delawn Armwood added 21.

The Saints (3-1) entertain Spring Creek today.

CALYPSO -- Senior Sierra Ward collected a game-high 25 points as North Duplin dumped Lakewood 60-37 in its season-opening game Wednesday afternoon.

Lauren Blackmore turned in a 19-point effort for the Rebels.

Angela Deaver led the Leopards, winless in five outings, with 10 points.

North Duplin is the guest of Hobbton today.

Kameron Byrd provided a game-high 24 points as Wayne Country Day defeated Oakwood Academy 74-30 in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference contest Thursday afternoon.

David Wilson added 19 points. Von Eason contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Chargers (5-2) travel to Halifax Academy on Dec. 16.

John Norris added six points for the Eagles.

Saints suffer

DUDLEY -- Paris Armwood scored 16 points and Silonte Thompson added 12 in Southern Wayne's 75-48, non-conference loss Wednesday afternoon against Wilmington New Hanover.

Dequan Cozart emerged the Saints' top rebounder with 13, while Thompson grabbed 12 boards.

Southern Wayne plays host to Spring Creek today. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Virginia Best emerged the top scorer with 13 points as Wayne Country Day rolled past Oakwood Academy 49-23 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference play Thursday afternoon.

Best added four steals and four rebounds for the Chargers, who improved to 2-3 overall.

Brie Radford provided 12 points and six rebounds.

Cougars ease

past Warriors

Jamel Valentine tallied a game-high 23 points as Goldsboro eased past county rival Eastern Wayne 68-60.

Javoris Simmons complemented Valentine's effort with 16 points.

Jeremy Watley led the Warriors with 19 points.

Goldsboro (4-1) travels to Charles B. Aycock this afternoon and plays host to Jacksonville at 11 a.m. Saturday.
