NEWTON GROVE -- Clare Narron scored a game-high 18 points as the Rosewood Eagles improved to 2-0 with a 71-29 triumph at Hobbton on Friday night.

After leading 12-8 after one quarter of play, Rosewood outscored the home team 31-2 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

"I thought they really played well in the first half and did a really very, very good job of rebounding the basketball," Rosewood coach Jerry Narron said. "Kasey Gray and Stephanie Rhoades were outstanding in the middle for us and Shanita Monroe and Kacie Braswell did a great job defensively."

Courtney Hill added 16 points for the Eagles.

Shalelia Williams scored 11 to lead Hobbton.

Rosewood hosts Lakewood on Tuesday.

Aycock falls

in double OT

CLAYTON -- Charles B. Aycock's Emily Stewart tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Golden Falcons suffered a 34-33 loss in double overtime at Clayton.

In a low scoring contest, Aycock (3-2) scored 16 points in the first period, only to manage just 17 total points in the final five periods, including the two overtime periods.

Clayton's Kasie Moore, who finished with 15 points, knocked down two-of-two at the stripe with 12 seconds left to give her team the 34-33 lead. The Falcons got three shots from near the basket in the waning seconds, but each came up empty as the Comets held on at home.

Quaneisha Milner added nine points for Aycock, while Erin Medford pulled down 11 rebounds.

Aycock hosts Wilson Fike on Tuesday.

Cochran leads Midway past Gators

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Midway outscored Spring Creek in every quarter as the home team beat the Gators 52-27.

Lauren Cochran scored 14 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter for Midway.

Brittani Billups had nine points and 10 rebounds for Spring Creek, while Tomeka Pride added eight points and five boards.

Spring Creek will host Union on Tuesday.

Natalie Thibeaux scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Faith Christian past Tabernacle Christian School on Friday night, 38-28.

Faith Christian, which led 33-10 after three quarters, improved to 3-1 with the victory .

Elizabeth Clark added nine points, nine boards and five assists for Faith, with teammate Alissa Hill also chipping in nine points.

suffers home loss

Wayne Christian's Brittany Sullivan and Brooke Norris collected 11 points each in the Eagles' 66-31 home loss to Cape Fear Christian in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play on Friday.

Michelle Krug added six points and two assists for Wayne Christian, while Katie Daniels contributed seven rebounds and three blocks.

The Eagles (2-7, 1-2 CCC) travels to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.

NEWTON GROVE -- Kenyon Stevens tossed in a game-high 25 points as Hobbton beat visiting Rosewood on Friday night, 70-54.

The home team outscored the Eagles (0-2) 21-11 in the third quarter to pull away.

For Rosewood, Kyle Bunn had 21 points with Stephen McIntyre and Dennis Jones adding 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Rosewood hosts Lakewood on Tuesday.

CLAYTON -- Charles B. Aycock (1-4) led after one quarter of play, but was outscored 51-31 the rest of the way, losing 60-39.

Santavin Poole scored 14 points to lead the Falcons, with Rob Phillips and Tim Alston chipping in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jamar Slocum led Clayton was a game-high 17 points.

Aycock will host Fike on Tuesday night.

past WCS

Wayne Christian fell to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play with a 65-56 setback against Cape Fear.

T.A. Brannen had a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards for Wayne Christian. Joran Yelverton added 12 points, Matt Davis had 11 and Nick Woods also reached double figures with 10 points against Cape Fear.

WCS will hit the road Dec. 8 to play at Faith of Rocky Mount.

Princeton goes cold

in third quarter

PRINCETON -- Princeton shot just 3-of-16 in the third quarter as the Bulldogs lost to Union on Friday night, 59-50.

Will Gainey scored 20 points for Princeton (2-3), with Ryan Daughtry adding 13.

Zack Honeycutt led Union -- which outscored the Bulldogs 25-15 over the middle two quarters -- with a game-high 21 points.

Princeton will play at Hobbton on Wednesday.

lead SW past GHS

DUDLEY -- Silonte Thompson and Dequan Cozart each collected a double-double in Southern Wayne's 72-59, non-conference victory over county rival Goldsboro on Friday evening.

Thompson posted 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Cozart added 10 points and 15 boards. The duo led four players in double figures that included Paris Armwood with 14 points and Justin Mitchell with 11.

Goldsboro (2-1) trailed 50-49 after three quarters and forced ties at 50-50 and 52-52. However, the Saints answered with a game-ending 20-7 run which produced their first win of the season in three outings.

Leonard Compton and Tavon Murchinson each scored 14 points for the Cougars. Teammate A.J. Fowler chipped in 12.

drops Cape Fear

Wayne Christian's Eric Williams scored 22 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a 44-24 win over Cape Fear Christian on Friday.

Wayne Christian (4-2 overall) improved to 2-0 in Carolina Christian 1-A Confernece play, heading into Thursday's game at Faith Christian of Rocky Mount.

Adam Combs added seven points for the Eagles.

NEWTON GROVE -- Sean Cornman scored 12 points and Tyler Muntz added nine as the Eagles (0-2) fell to Hobbton on Friday night, 49-47.

Hobbton's C.J. Brinson led all scorers with 14 points.

Goldsboro's Jamel Valentine notched 10 points and 12 rebounds to help boost the Cougars to a 51-48 win at home against East Duplin on Saturday.

Javorious Simmons added nine points for Goldsboro (3-1).

On Friday, Simmons poured in 18 points in the Cougars' 71-55 victory over Southern Wayne on Friday.

Tyquan Sprangle notched 11 points for Goldsboro.

Brandon Anderson and Reginald Price scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Saints.

Jennifer Price added eight points and eight rebounds, while Charlie Ipock contributed seven points and three rebounds and Shelle Anderson had six points and six boards.
