ROSEBORO -- Rosewood junior Courtney Hill dropped in 20 points as the Eagles opened their season with a 65-40 win at Lakewood on Wednesday.

Rosewood (1-0) jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first period with hot shooting and tight defense and never looked back.

"Our girls came out and played really hard early. We shot the ball well and played good defense in the first quarter," Eagles' coach Jerry Narron said. "After that, we did a lot of substituting. All of our girls played."

Senior Clare Narron added 12 points for Rosewood, which returns to action on Friday at Hobbton.

Samantha Smith and Lindsay Benton finished with 16 and 13 points for Lakewood, respectively.

Faith holds on

for tough win

Faith Chrisitian's Lindsey Godwin hit two cluth free throws with five seconds left to help boost the Conquerors to a 29-26 win over Berrean Baptist.

Faith (2-1) erased a 23-15 deficit after three quarters, outscoring its opponent 14-3 in the fourth.

Natalie Thibeaux led the Conquerors with eight points and 12 rebounds, while teammate Elizabeth Clarke added seven points, four steals and three assists.

Lisa Dunmore paced Berrean with 11 points.

Faith returns to action on Friday against Tabernacle on the first day of the Faith Christian Invitational Tournament.

Wayne Country Day's Tiara Broadie finished with a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Chargers dropped Terra Ceia 42-26.

The Chargers improved to 3-3 heading into today's contest against Word of God in Raleigh.

Ashley Clark added 11 points for WCDS, while teammate Molly Peacock had eight rebounds to go with three blocks and two points.

ROSEBORO -- Rosewood senior Kyle Bunn posted a team-best 20 points in the Eagles' 73-53 loss at Lakewood on Wednesday in Rosewood's season opener.

The Eagles trimmed a 12-point halftime deficit down to five points in the third quarter, only to see the Leopards bounce back to outscore them 29-14 in the fourth.

"We didn't play defense very well. We played harder in the third, but ran out of gas in the fourth," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said.

"That's something we need to work on."

Zach Hardison added 11 points for the Eagles, while teammate Clarence Toran contributed 10 points.

Lakewood's Joe Warren led all scorers with 25 points.

Rosewood (0-1) returns to action on Friday at Hobbton.

PRINCETON -- Princeton sophomore Ryan Daughtry tallied a game-high 16 points as the Eagles fell 47-37 to James Kenan on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs fell to 2-2, heading into Friday's home game against Union.

Adam Williams added eight points for Princeton, which was held to five points in the second quarter and six in the fourth.

Four James Kenan players scored at least six points for the Tigers, who travel to East Duplin on Friday.

Goldsboro's Jamison Wellington scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Cougars defeated Smithfield-Selma 72-68 at home on Tuesday.

Tavon Murchison added 14 points and eight rebounds for Goldsboro, while Kevonta McDuffie contributed 13 points and three rebounds.

Goldsboro (2-0) takes on Southern Wayne on Friday in Dudley.
