Pride, Billups notch double-doubles for Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Tomeka Pride and Brittani Billups each collected a double-double in Spring Creek's 50-46, non-conference victory against Hobbton on Tuesday evening.

Pride tallied 19 points, 16 rebounds and two blocked shots for the Gators. Billups, a sophomore, added 16 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocks.

Second-year Gators coach Mandy Ramjford commended Pride and Billups for their efforts. But the former Georgia high school standout also cited Sarah Parks, Janet Potter and Mara Phipps for their solid play.

Potter had five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Tracy Williams led three Hobbton players in double figures with 16 points. Shekala Williams contributed 15, while Morgan Farroll provided 10.

Spring Creek (1-2) travels to Midway on Friday.

Warriors still

seeking first win

WILSON -- Yasmine Washington pumped in a game-high 19 points in Eastern Wayne's 51-32, non-conference loss at Wilson Fike on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Demons limited the Warriors (0-4) to just 12 second-half points, including three in the final quarter.

"The second half, I felt like we missed some easy shots under the basket ... contested or not," said Eastern Wayne coach Brent Holland. "They kept their defensive pressure up and made their shots. (I thought) we played a really good first half."

Fike led 26-20 at halftime.

Barksdale Thompson poured in 15 points and Briana Virgil added 12 for the Golden Demons, who remained unbeaten in three outings.

Eastern Wayne entertains South Central on Friday.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Dalreese Bell led four Spring Creek players in double figures with 20 points in a 60-59, non-conference victory over Hobbton on Tuesday evening.

Daniel Chewning added 13 points. Desmund Raeford and Cliff Wilson provided 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Gators.

Wilson and Josh Wright each dished out four assists, while Wright collected a team-high eight rebounds.

Kenyon Stevens tallied a game-high 25 points for the Wildcats.

Spring Creek travels to Midway on Friday.

Bulldogs ease

past ENCSD

WILSON -- Josh Barefoot recorded a double-double and emerged one of three Princeton players in double figures in the Bulldogs' 60-37, non-conference victory over the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf on Tuesday evening.

Barefoot concluded the contest with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Daughtry and Taylor Lane each provided 12 points. Patrick Bunch added nine.

Javon Lashley led the Hornets, former members of the Class 1-A Carolina Conference, with 11 points.

Wright gets

triple-double

PANTEGO -- Adam Wright has flirted with a triple-double all season and finally got it Tuesday evening at Terra Ceia.

Wright -- who played point guard -- collected 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in Wayne Country Day's 80-50 non-conference victory. Phillip Weeks added a career-high 18 points for the Chargers, who are ranked No. 5 in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A poll.

Weeks also recorded five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Senior Chris Sheniall added four points and eight rebounds.

"Chris was a big lift for us," said WCDS coach Chad Wiggins.

The Chargers (5-2) travel to Word of God on Thursday.

upend Warriors

WILSON -- King Farmer ruled the courts and provided a game-high 26 points in Wilson Fike's 80-50, non-conference conquest of Eastern Wayne on Tuesday evening.

Micah Baines added 13 points and 6-foot-2 freshman Jeremy Atkinson contributed 10 for the Golden Demons -- who shot 55 percent from the floor.

"They shot the ball extremely well," said Warriors coach Marvin Bowman. "We had a few bright spots, but we couldn't close the gap once we got down.'

Rico McCarter emerged Eastern Wayne's top scorer with 16 points.

The Warriors (2-2) entertain South Central on Friday.

Josh Brannan added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Conquerors.

Faith Christian (4-0) returns to action Friday in its own invitational tournament. First-round matchups were not provided as of press time.

T.A. Brannan provided a double-double -- 14 points, 12 rebounds -- in Wayne Christian's 51-35 victory over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference rival Johnston Christian on Monday evening.

Matt Davis and Adam Brannan each scored 10 points for the Eagles.

Billy Smith dished out six assists.

Wayne Christian (5-3, 2-0 CCC) entertains Cape Fear Christian on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. at Clifford Gymnasium.

PANTEGO -- Kameron Byrd pumped in a game-high 27 points as Wayne Country Day hammered Terra Ceia 61-17 on Tuesday afternoon.

David Wilson added 14 points for the Chargers, who have won 27 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Wayne Country Day (5-0) travels to Word of God on Thursday.

Taylor Stocks emerged Faith Christian's leading scorer with 14 points in Tuesday's 58-37 victory over Berea Christian-Fayetteville.

Jeremy Sandlin added 12 points. Austin Webber and Brad Morris contributed eight and seven points, respectively.

Warriors pull

away from Rose

GREENVILLE -- Eastern Wayne senior Travis Turner and Brandon Johnson, each coming off a gold-medal performance this past weekend, rallied Eastern Wayne to a 41-30, non-conference victory over J.H. Rose on Tuesday evening.

Leading 31-30, Turner recorded a 9-1 major decision against Samuel Green at 189 pounds. Johnson earned a forfeit, worth six team points, at 215 pounds. Each Warrior grappler claimed first place in the Tarboro Turkey Tumble this past weekend.

"We edged Rose by nine points at the Aycock tournament," said Eastern Wayne coach Mike Brown. "We both had people in different spots trying to guess what the other (coach) was going to do. I guess we got lucky and had all the right kids in all the right places."

The contest featured one tie and three lead changes.

Brack Duvall gave Eastern Wayne the lead for good at 21-18 with a second-period pin. A.J. Washington followed with a third-period pin to make it 27-18.

The Rampants, of the 3-A/4-A Coastal Conference, received a decision from Austin Simmons at 145. Warrior senior Joey Burridge scored a major decision against McLean Wilson for an overall match score of 31-21.

Blake Goodall and Rob Brooks each posted victories for J.H. Rose, which closed the gap to 31-30. Turner and Johnson finished off the Rampants and gave the Warriors their second dual-meet win in three outings.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Saturday in the Pierce-Davis Memorial at SouthWest Edgecombe. First-round matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central turned a close match into a rout in the latter stages of a 55-24, non-conference victory over Rocky Mount Senior High on Tuesday evening.

The Gryphons, of the NEW Athletic 6 Conference, pulled within 33-24 when 160-pounder Guy Williamson earned a third-period pin against the Rams' Dale Hines.

Greene Central, of the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference, captured the next four matches to put away the visitors. Robert Tyndall (171 pounds) picked up a decision. Darren Gorham (189), Marquis Eanes (215) and heavyweight Justin Wellington each pinned their respective opponent.

The Rams also got wins from Philip Freeman (103), James Thomas (112), Cameron Taylor (130), Chris Jones (135), Billy Teston 9145) and Tim McNair (152).
