SMITHFIELD -- Southern Wayne's Delawn Armwood -- one of seven Saints' seniors -- knocked down six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 39-point performance as the Saints dropped Smithfield-Selma 106-78 at the Spartans' gymnasium on Tuesday.

It was the season-opening game for Southern Wayne with second-year coach Mike Connelley.

Derek Garris, Akeem Royal and Justin Bellamy added 12 points each for the Saints, who led 57-46 at the half.

Ron Deas finished with 27 for SSS, while teammate Brandon Grantham added 23.

Connelley applauded the defensive effort of Austin Hood, who also had nine points.

Southern Wayne (1-0) returns to action on Nov. 29 at home against Class 4-A foe, New Hanover.

RED SPRINGS -- Wayne Country Day's Adam Wright recorded his third double-double of the season with 30 points and 13 rebounds as the Chargers improved to 3-1 with an 85-59 win at Flora McDonald in non-conference play on Tuesday.

Wright also added six assists fro WCDS, which faces Laurinburg Charter on Friday on the first day of the Word of God Tournament in Raleigh.

Phillip Weeks contributed 18 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Chargers, while teammate Travis Davis added 15 points and eight assists.

Jay Tyson paced Flora McDonald with 27 points.

EW balanced in road win

WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Rico McCarter posted 16 points and pulled down six rebounds to help boost the Warriors to a 72-68 win at former Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference foe, South Central, on Tuesday night.

Darryl Cowan (14 points), Lamar Davis (12 points), D'Adrian Worrell (12 points) and Landon Downes (11 points) all finished in double-figures for Eastern Wayne, which improved to 2-1 heading into a road contest at Wilson Fike on Nov. 29.

Cowan knocked down four, 3-pointers and had seven assists, while Downes dished out eight assists.

Eastern Wayne finished 17-of-22 from the free-throw line as South Central shot 8-of-14 from the stripe.

The Warriors led 37-29 at the half.

Monterrio Haddock led the Falcons with 20 points.

Princeton evens overall slate

ERWIN -- Princeton sophomore Ryan Daughtry scored 19 points, including 15 in the second half, to lead the Bulldogs past Cape Fear Christian 54-52 on Tuesday night.

Fellow sophomore Will Gainey added 11 points for the Bulldogs (1-1), who travel to the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf in Wilson on Nov. 29. Princeton's Taylor Lane contributed

11 points, while Patrick Bunch had seven points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.

RED SPRINGS -- Wayne Country Day's Tiara Broadie notched a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals as the Chargers improved to 2-2 with a 36-34 win at Flora McDonald on Tuesday.

Molly Peacock added 10 rebounds and four points for the Chargers, who travel to Terra Ceia on Nov. 29.

Brittany Oxendine led the Cougars with 15 points.

Warriors fall at South Central

WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Yasmine Washington tallied a game-best 13 points as the Warriors suffered a 54-30 loss at South Central on Tuesday in non-conference action.

South Central (3-0) was led by Reccie Moore, Reese Mills and Kemia Smith, who had eight points each.

The Warriors (0-3) travel to Wilson Fike on Nov. 29.

Warriors endure road loss

NEW BERN -- Eastern Wayne claimed five individual matches, including two pins, during a 54-24 non-conference loss Tuesday evening at perennial Class 4-A power New Bern.

Sophomore 119-pounder Chris Tesar remained unbeaten in four outings with a 6-5 decision against Cameron Carter. Brian Lincoln pulled out a one-point decision at 160 pounds, while senior Travis Turner and heavyweight Brandon Johnson each pinned their respective opponent.

Foy Coley earned a forfeit at 215 pounds.

The Warriors (1-1) had seven first-year wrestlers in the lineup.

New Bern benefited from youthful mistakes and raced to a 48-3 lead before Eastern Wayne claimed four of the evening's final five matches.

The Warriors return to action Saturday in the Tarboro Turkey Invitational at Tarboro High.

G. Central picks up victory

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central profited from six forfeits en route to a 60-24, non-conference victory over Wilson Beddingfield.

The Rams (1-1) won four of eight contested matches -- all by pin -- from Jeffrey Shingleton (135 pounds), Chris Jones (140), Tim McNair (152) and Dale Hines (171).

Philip Freeman, Robert Phillips, Cameron Taylor, Darrin Gorham, Marquis Eanes and heavyweight Justin Wellington each collected a forfeit for Greene Central.

The Rams return to action Saturday in the Tarboro Turkey Invitational at Tarboro High.

Eagles suffer home loss

Wayne Christian's Eric Williams finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Eagles' 53-36 loss at home to Parrott Academy on Monday.

Davis Smith led Parrott with 12 points.

The Eagles (1-2) traveled to Terra Ceia on Tuesday.
