WALLACE -- Wallace-Rose Hill erupted for six touchdowns in the second quarter and cruised to a 70-14 opening-round Class 1-AA playoff win over Rosewood at the "Dog Pound" on Friday night.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-0 with the victory as Rosewood finished its season at 2-10.

Wallace-Rose Hill scored just two minutes into the game on a 42-yard run by junior running back Mike Evans. Rosewood, not to be intimidated, got into the end zone on its next possession as quarterback Brantley Ellis teamed up with Stephen McIntyre on a 71-yard pass play. Cameron Lowe kicked the extra point and the Eagles pulled even with nine minutes left in the first quarter.

Late in the first quarter, the Bulldogs' Jerome Irving fielded a punt on his own 40 yard line and outran a host of Eagle tacklers 60 yards to give Wallace-Rose Hill a 14-7 lead after one quarter of play.

The Bulldogs, the No. 1 seed in the East, quickly dashed any Eagle upset hopes in the second quarter. Wallace-Rose Hill scored on the first play of the second quarter on a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Jordan to Travis Kornegay.

Wallace-Rose Hill running back Bryon Williams scored three touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 47, 20, and 50 yards. His third touchdown run came on the last play of the first half. Mike Evans added his second and third touchdowns in the first half on runs of 65 and 26 yards as the 'Dawgs took a 56-7 lead at the intermission.

Rosewood scored its final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run by Chris Holmes. The Eagles defense allowed only two second half Wallace-Rose Hill touchdowns.

The Bulldogs used 17 ball carriers to roll up 524 yards rushing for the game. Bryon Williams rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns for Wallace-Rose Hill while Mike Evans added 170 yards and three TDs. Bradley Bradshaw kicked 10 consecutive extra points for the Bulldogs.

"We played hard, we were able to get a lot of people in the game tonight," Wallace-Rose Hill coach Jack Holley said. "But it's hard to be satisfied when you lay the ball on the ground as much as we did tonight."

The Bulldogs coughed the ball up eight times, but didn't lose any of those fumbles.

Ellis passed for 128 yards and a touchdown. Josh Myers was the leading Rosewood ball carrier with 12 carries for 31 yards The Bulldog defense limited Rosewood to just 47 yards rushing.

Rosewood coach Daniel Barrow was far from discouraged after the game.

"They are big and strong, Coach Holley is such an institution in North Carolina football," he said. "This is his 43rd year. It was quite an honor for me to be on the opposite sideline.

"We came out and battled pretty good in the second half. They have a fine football team with great speed. It was quite an opportunity for us to play the No. 1 team in the state. I am sorry to see our seniors go. They gave us great leadership this year."
