HENDERSON -- Tyler Smith scored two goals to help boost North Lenoir to a 3-2 win over Southern Vance on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2-A N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.
The win was the Hawks' first-ever playoff victory.
Alex McGaughy contributed one goal and two assists for North Lenoir (10-9-1), while goalie George Walters had nine saves.
The Hawks travel to West Stokes for a second round matchup. The date of the game has not been determined.
GC falls
to Franklinton
SNOW HILL -- Franklinton's Logan Green scored late in the second half to lift his team to a 1-0 win over Greene Central in the first round of the Class 2-A N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs on Wednesday at the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex.
The Rams finished the season at 11-6-1 overall after a second-place finish in the Eastern Plains Conference.
Franklinton (7-10-2) travels to Cardinal Gibbons on Saturday in Raleigh.

For the week ending Nov. 1, Faye Franklin won play of the day, while Novella Zambelli claimed low net, Charlotte Campbell took low net and Franki Farfour won low putts. For the week ending Oct. 25, Franklin claimed play of the day as Campbell took low gross with Dot Julian winning low net and Linda Cannon winning low putts.

For the week ending Oct. 30, Lou Ellen Flowers won low net and game of the week, while Linda Cannon won low putts. For the week ending Oct. 23, Theresa Shearin and Libby Newsome tied for low net. Shearin won game of the week and low putts.
Heath, Williams notch
feats at Sleepy Creek
Brad Heath, a Dudley native, turned in a double eagle on hole No. 11 at Sleepy Creek. Heath used a three wood for the 230-yard, par five. It was his first-ever double eagle. Ricky Johnson and Dennis Heath witnessed the feat.
Roger Williams posted a hole-in-one on the 116-yard, No. 8 using an eight iron. It was his first career ace. Adam Williams witnessed the feat.
