GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Heidi Busch led four players in double figures with 15 kills as Mount Olive extended its winning streak to eight with a 30-20, 31-29, 30-26 victory over Limestone in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball Saturday at Gaffney, S.C.

The win officially secures a top two finish in the CVAC standings for Mount Olive (23-6 overall, 16-1 CVAC).

Sara Christie recorded 45 assists and moved up a spot to No. 19 on the NCAA II all-time assists list with 5,637 career assists. Busch climbed to within five kills of the No. 8 spot on the NCAA II all-time kills list with 2,343 kills.

Anna Luft recorded 14 kills for the Trojans, while Sam Mitchell finished with 11 kills and Colby Mangum added 10 kills. Nikki Murphy recorded 15 digs.

Limestone (14-15, 7-11) was led by Amber Wise with a match-high 17 kills.

Mount Olive concludes its weekend road trip of three matches in three days today at Belmont, N.C., as the Trojans take on Belmont Abbey in a CVAC match-up. Mount Olive, currently a half-game behind conference leader Lees-McRae, can move into a first-place tie in the conference standings. Match time is 2 p.m.

On Friday, Sam Mitchell recorded 18 kills and Heidi Busch added 17 kills as Mount Olive placed four players in double figures in a 30-9, 30-16, 26-30, 30-21 victory over Queens in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball at Charlotte.

Setter Sara Christie tallied 55 assists and broke into the top 20 on the NCAA II volleyball all-time list. Christie ranks 20th with 5,632 career assists.

WILSON -- Reid Clewis forced overtime with a goal in the 76th minute for Mount Olive, but Scott Summers scored the game-winner 84 seconds into extra time to lift Barton to a 2-1 victory over the Trojans in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference men's soccer Saturday at Wilson.

With the loss, Mount Olive ties with Anderson for third place in the CVAC standings and receives the No. 4 seed in the CVAC Tournament, which gets underway Wednesday. Barton moved ahead of Erskine for the eighth and final seed in the tournament.

Mount Olive (11-5-2 overall, 6-3-1 CVAC) withstood early attacks by Barton, including three corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the match. Trojan goalkeeper Chris Roush punched a direct kick from 20 yards out over the crossbar to keep the match scoreless.

Barton (5-13-0, 4-6-0) got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Joby Ruhl crossed the ball into the box to Hector Bermudez, who scored from in front of the right post as the Bulldogs led 1-0 at halftime. The goal was Barton's first since 2003 against Mount Olive, which posted two shutouts over Barton last year.

Mount Olive applied more pressure to start the half, but Barton goalkeeper Matt Coble made saves on Woody Stilley's header in the box and Matt Hobbs' line drive from outside of the box.

The Trojans played with a man advantage after a Barton player was sent off with his second yellow card in the 74th minute. Mount Olive capitalized as Ryan Brown made a steal in the backfield, Bradley Carroll served a ball from midfield over the top of the defense and Reid Clewis blasted his 10th goal of the season from the top of the 18 to tie the match.

Both teams had opportunities in the final minutes of regulation, but the match remained tied. When Mount Olive last played at Barton in 2003, the two teams went to overtime and played to a 2-2 tie.

Mount Olive had the first scoring opportunity as Erik Small took the ball into the box and served to Carroll at the top of the 18, but his shot went just wide. Barton won a 50-50 at midfield on the goal kick and Summers got past the Trojan defense for a breakaway goal to end the match.

Roush finished with seven saves for Mount Olive, while Coble recorded six saves for Barton. Shots were even at 10-10.

Trojan head coach Jerry Riggs says his team needs to concentrate on the upcoming CVAC Tournament.

Mount Olive plays host to No. 5 seed Pfeiffer Wednesday in the first round of the CVAC Men's Soccer Tournament. Match time is 2 p.m. at Trojan Field.

suffer road loss

Lyndsay Brennan's goal late in the second half pulled Mount Olive within a goal, but goals by Jordan Carter and Tara Davis lifted Barton to a 2-1 victory over the Trojans in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's soccer Saturday at Wilson.

As a result, Mount Olive gets the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CVAC Women's Soccer Tournament, while Barton gains the No. 3 seed. The two teams entered Saturday's match tied for third in the conference standings.

Mount Olive (12-8-0 overall, 8-3-0 CVAC) narrowly missed getting on the scoreboard early in the match when conference scoring leader rifled a shot from the top of the box. But Barton goalkeeper Ashley Ross tipped the ball off the right post and caught the ball from the ground off the deflection.

The match seemed to be heading to a scoreless first half, but Barton (13-4-0, 9-2-0) broke the deadlock as Patricia Acosta's service freed Carter, who got past the Trojan defense and scored from the top of the 18 to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 halftime lead.

Mount Olive thought it had tied the match in the 34th minute after a Barton foul gave the Trojans a restart in the Bulldog third. Dos Santos served the restart into the box and April Jacobs headed the ball into the back of the net, but Mount Olive was called for offside and the goal was disallowed.

Barton extended the lead to 2-0 at the 83:52 mark when Davis captured a loose ball off a corner kick and headed the ball into the goal.

The Trojans, which erased a two-goal deficit two weeks ago against Belmont Abbey with two goals in a span of 46 seconds, threatened another comeback as Jackie Jimenez served the ball into the box to Brennan, who punched home her 12th goal of the season at the 85:30 mark.

Mount Olive had a scoring chance in the closing seconds, but Barton cleared a ball beyond the end line and time expired before the Trojans execute a corner kick.

Mount Olive plays host to No. 5 seed Erskine Tuesday in the first round of the CVAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Match time is 2 p.m. at Trojan Field.
