Kendall scores 2 goals in Eagles win
LOUISBURG -- Rosewood's Goss Kendall had two goals as the Eagles claimed a 3-0 win at Louisburg in Class 1-A Carolina/Tar Roanoke Conference action on Wednesday.
The win improves Rosewood (7-10 overall) to 4-3 in conference play heading into today's regular-season finale at home against league-unbeaten North Johnston.
An upset win over the Panthers would land the Eagles in the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs as the conference's No. 2 seed. A loss would put Rosewood and Spring Creek in a two-way tie for second, and the two would likely draw for the playoff spot. There are also seven Wild Cards available in the eastern bracket.
All three of Rosewood's goals were in the second half.
Elliott Lee got the Eagles on the board five minutes after intermission, before Kendall notched goals in the 14th and 35th minutes, respectively. Trey Kriger and Kyle Bunn had assists on Kendall's goals.
Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell praised the overall effort of the defense in posting the shutout.
The Wildcats (6-7-1 overall) fell to 3-5 in league play.
Gators close season
with non-conference tie with Hobbton
SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Octavio Huerta finished with two goals as the Gators finished in a 3-3 tie with Hobbton on Wednesday in a non-conference contest.
Spring Creek finished the season at 5-5-2 overall and 4-4 in the Carolina/Tar Roanoke Conference. The Gators are still in position to claim the conference's second and final guaranteed Class 1-A N.C. High School Athletic Association playoff berth, depending the outcome of Rosewood's home match with North Johnston today.
Darwin Aldana added one goal for Spring Creek, which had a 2-1 lead at halftime.
