C.B. Aycock (5-3) at Wilson Hunt (7-1)

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock faces another crucial test and needs a win. Hunt's defense yields less than nine points a game. The Golden Falcons have a pretty good defense, too, and limit opponents to 223.1 yards of total offense each outing. The Warriors were the preseason pick to win the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference title.

Wilson Beddingfield (8-0) at Eastern Wayne (4-3-1)

Can anyone stop Bennett Johnson? The senior quarterback threw for 300-plus yards at Southern Wayne last week as the Bruins put 34 unanswered points on the board in the second half. Eastern Wayne has lost two consecutive games and is coming off a 40-6 loss against Wilson Hunt.

Goldsboro (2-6) at Farmville Central (3-5)

FARMVILLE -- Call this one a head scratcher. Farmville is 2-1 in its last three games and 1-1 in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference. The Cougars have played two strong defensive games, but have misfired offensively. Four missed opportunities inside an opponent's red zone spelled disaster in last Friday's 12-0 loss to Greene Central.

Southern Wayne (5-3) at Kinston (0-8)

KINSTON -- Kinston played a strong second half offensively against C.B. Aycock last Friday, and hopes to carry that momentum into this week's contest. The Saints bring the Eastern Carolina Conference's top rusher, Anthony Council, to town. Council is coming off a season-low 79-yard performance against Beddingfield.

Tarboro High (2-6) at Greene Central (4-4)

SNOW HILL -- The question is how healthy will Tarboro be this week? Viking tailback Shaun Draughn made a surprise appearance in last week's loss to North Lenoir, and eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. The Rams continue to improve each week, but dodged a major bullet Friday at Goldsboro. Greene Central grabbed its second shutout due to the Cougars' inability to execute on four possessions inside the red zone.

North Pitt (2-6) at North Lenoir (3-5)

LaGRANGE -- Those Hawks are finally gaining some confidence and showing some spunk offensively. Quarterback Andrew Manning threw for a season-high 133 yards and one touchdown at Tarboro. Eric Whitfield continues to run the ball well. Meanwhile, the young and inexperienced Panthers have been victimized by turnovers.

James Kenan (6-2) at Hobbton (3-4)

NEWTON GROVE -- James Kenan's defense has to be feeling good since its posted two shutouts in its last three games. Opponents have managed just one touchdown in 12 quarters against the Tigers, but that could change Friday. Whenever these two Super Six 1-A teams meet, anything can happen ... and expect the unexpected.

Princeton (0-8) at North Johnston (8-0)

KENLY -- North Johnston remains the lone unbeaten in Carolina 1-A Conference play and must not get caught looking ahead to a matchup against state-ranked Ayden-Grifton. It's best to let sleeping Dawgs lie, is it not? Princeton has struggled with surrendering big plays.

North Duplin (2-5) at Ayden-Grifton (7-1)

AYDEN -- If North Duplin coach John Avent viewed last week's Ayden-Grifton game against Spring Creek, he probably wants to keep the ball away from No. 4 -- Daniel Greene. Greene tallied three first-half touchdowns in Seven Springs last week and nearly rushed for 200 yards. The Rebels must play solid defense and block fullback Matt Tripp, who is capable of breaking loose for a big gain -- or a touchdown.
