Eagles improve to 19-0

Rosewood's volleyball team continued its undefeated march through the regular season with a 25-22, 25-12, 25-22 win at home over North Duplin in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play on Tuesday.

The win improves the Eagles (19-0 overall) to 9-0 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference with one game regular season game left at Princeton on Thursday. Rosewood has locked up the league's top seed for the conference tourney, beginning next Tuesday.

North Duplin (6-7 overall) fell to 3-6 in Carolina play and hosts Spring Creek on Thursday.

Abigail Barrow finished with 20 assists, five digs, three aces and three kills, while Kasey Grey added 10 kills, eight blocks and four digs. Stephanie Rhodes added six kills and four blocks for the Eagles as teammate Clare Narron provided seven kills and three digs.

Sierra Ward led North Duplin with nine kills, six digs and five blocks, while Casey Pate served on 12 points with 11 digs.

On Monday, Rosewood defeated Goldsboro 25-6, 25-7, 25-7 in non-conference action.

Barrow had seven assists and three aces in Monday's contest as Aubrey Reinhard added five assists for the Eagles.

Goldsboro coach Marquita Raynor applauded the efforts of Shaconda Johnson and Tiffany Burden.

The Cougars faced North Lenoir on Tuesday.

WCDS suffers

KENLY -- Wayne Country Day's Ashley Clark had three assists and one kill in the Chargers' 25-16, 25-10, 25-8 loss at North Johnston in non-conference play on Monday.

Erin Taylor added two digs for WCDS (7-11 overall), which traveled to Kerr-Vance on Tuesday.

remains unbeaten

North Duplin remained unbeaten at 13-0 on the season with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-19 win at Rosewood on Tuesday in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play.

North Duplin (9-0 Carolina) will host Spring Creek on Thursday in its season finale, while the Eagles (3-14, 1-8) visit Princeton.

The Rebels' Kayla Myers served on 20 points with four aces, three kills and three digs, while Heather Hudson served on 10 points with five digs and three kills.

Rosewood's Ashley Williams contributed five digs and three kills as teammate Caroline Tart added five digs and two kills.

Aycock tops

rival Warriors

Charles B. Aycock's Emily Jordan served up seven aces and served on the Falcons' final seven points to help boost her team to a 25-14, 26-28, 25-13 win at Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.

Bridgette Briggs added five kills for Aycock (11-2, 6-2 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference), which travels to Southern Wayne on Thursday.

No further information was provided on Tuesday's match.

Eastern Wayne concluded the regular season with a 9-0 sweep over Kinston on Monday in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action.

The Warriors finished in a second-place tie with Wilson Hunt, but lost the coin toss to Hunt for a spot in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs. Eastern Wayne will begin competition in the conference tournament today.

In singles, Lauren Bynum, Ashley Smith, Brandi Butts, Casie Musgrave, Mollie Musgrave and Nicole Fine emerged with wins for the Warriors. The doubles tandems of Smith-Butts, Bynum-Casie Musgrave and Mollie Musgrave-Sami Abrahamson helped finish off the sweep.

Wayne Christian emerged with wins in two-of-three doubles matches contested against Eastern Wayne as the Eagles defeated the Warriors 6-3 at Herman Park on Tuesday.

The doubles tandems of Laura Lee Hodson-Mary West and Bianca Wall-Chris Hoeper emerged with wins for Wayne Christian, while the Warrior tandem of Kelsi Yates-Emily Northington tallied a victory at No. 3.

In singles, the Eagles got wins from West, Hoeper, Catie Fairchild and Stacy McCary. Lindsey Frederick and Sarah Corley won in singles for the Warriors -- competing in their season finale.

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock improved to 14-2 on the season with a 6-3 win at home over Riverbirch on Monday.

The Golden Falcons got singles wins from Courtney Barnes, Kara Kelly, Lauren Pierce and Mallory Strickland. In doubles, Emilee Quinn-Barnes emerged for Aycock at No. 2, while the Falcons took the No. 3 doubles match by default.

Aycock travels to Riverbirch today.

Wilson Hunt

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's Eric Rivera scored on an assist from Adam Corley early in the second half to help boost the Warriors to a 4-2 win at Wilson Hunt on Monday.

The win improves Eastern Wayne (7-4-2 overall) to 4-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference, while Hunt (11-5-1 overall) dropped to the same conference mark of 4-2.

The Warriors also got a goal from Andrew Corley on an assist from Sean Worrell to make it 1-0. Hunt answered when Jerimy Lucas posted a goal to tie the game at 1-1.

The Warriors out-shot Hunt 22-16, while Hunt had five corners to Eastern Wayne's two.

Eastern Wayne goalie Vincent Hagedorn finished with nine saves. Warrior coach Jörg Wagner praised the efforts of Chris Brown, Justin Smith and Matt Wolf defensively.

Eagles top

Louisburg

Rosewood's Kyle Bunn and Elliott Lee scored one goal each to help lead the Eagles to a 2-1 win at home over Louisburg in Class 1-A Carolina/Tar-Roanoke Conference play on Monday.

The Eagles (5-7 overall) improved to 2-2 in conference play, while the Warriors (5-4-1 overall) dropped to 2-2 in league play.

Trevor Morris grabbed five saves for the Eagles, who travel to Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday. Rosewood outshot Louisburg 12-7 on the match. Louisburg's lone goal came from Robert Calamaco.

Lane Tree Ladies Golf

Teresa Shearin won low net, game-of-the-week and low putts for play ending Oct. 2. Libby Newsome took low net and game-of-the-week, while Betty Jean Gurley claimed low putts.

Middle schools

Norwayne soccer 10, Spring Creek 0 -- Tyler Ruffin had four goals and one assist for Norwayne, while Tucker Pearson, Travis Musselman, Thomas Oliver, Miles Claiborne, Blake Vail and Austin Terrell notched one goal each. Jessica Price and Pearson dished out two assists each as Oliver, David Burke, and Brice Creeger also had an assist. Norwayne (4-0-1) faces Brogden on Thursday.

Brogden volleyball d. Dillard 25-12, 25-13, 12-25, 25-16 -- Brogden improved to 6-1 on the season as Danielle Barnes served on 18 points with seven aces and two digs. The Rams' Kayla Gracyk served on 11 points with five aces, while Ashley Narron served on 11 points with seven aces. Brogden hosts Norwayne on Thursday.
