AYDEN -- North Duplin's Sierra Ward had 11 kills, five blocks and served on 12 points as the Rebels rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Ayden-Grifton 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-7 on Tuesday at the Chargers' gymnasium.

Casey Pate served on 23 points with two aces for North Duplin, while Vanessa Lynch (five aces) and Brittany Carr (four aces) served on 18 and 17 points, respectively. Heather Hudson served on 13 points with four digs, three aces and two blocks.

The Rebels (5-1, 2-0 Class 1-A Carolina Conference) return to action on Thursday at home against unbeaten Rosewood.

Falcons fall

to Hunt

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock suffered a 26-24, 25-19, 21-25, 15-25, 15-6 loss at Wilson Hunt in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action on Tuesday.

Kandace Burroughs had 11 kills for Aycock, while Shelly Lancaster finished with six kills.

Aycock (5-3, 1-2 ECC) hosts Eastern Wayne today.

Hunt (8-3 overall) won its league opener.

Jags sweep

Goldsboro

Goldsboro's Jaliscea Brinson had four kills in the Cougars' 25-17, 27-25, 25-14 loss in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference play.

Helga Bryant had four blocks for the Cougars, while coach Marquita Raynor also highlighted Briana Wallace (assists), Shaconda Johnson (serving) and Tiffany Burden (teamwork).

Goldsboro (0-11, 0-3 EPC) hosts North Lenoir on Thursday.

Bruins drop

Eastern Wayne

Wilson Beddingfield defeated Eastern Wayne 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Tuesday in New Hope.

The Bruins (13-0, 3-0 ECC) have lost only one set all season.

The Warriors (1-1 ECC) travel to Charles B. Aycock today.

Johnston County battle

KENLY -- In Class 1-A Carolina Conference action, Princeton's Stephanie Daughtry had 14 kills, six tips and four blocks, but North Johnston came away with a 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 20-25, 15-5 win at home on Tuesday.

Brittany Davis added 13 assists and 11 digs for the Bulldogs, while Brittany Rose added 13 assists and Jenny Wallace provided eight kills. Mandy Wellons and Kortnie Yutzy had eight and seven digs, respectively.

The Bulldogs were without two key players due to injury and sickness.

Princeton (3-4, 1-2 Carolina) hosts Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

Spring Creek's Anna Potter had five kills and two aces in the Gators' 25-14, 15-25, 25-22 victory at Rosewood on Tuesday in Class 1-A Carolina Conference action.

Ashley Williams had five kills and three aces for the Eagles, while Kristina Jordan had three assists and Caroline Tart served up three aces.

No further information was provided on Tuesday's match.

Rosewood (2-8, 0-3 Carolina) travels to North Duplin on Thursday, while the Gators (5-3, 2-1) host Midway today in non-conference play.

Falcons suffer

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Bridgette Briggs had four kills as the Golden Falcons lost 25-16, 14-25, 25-15 at Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Emily Jordan and Stevie Savage posted four digs each for the Falcons (6-1, 1-1 ECC).

Aycock hosts Eastern Wayne today.

AYDEN -- North Duplin's Julie Ivey served on 13 points with five aces as the Rebels turned in a 25-18, 25-13 sweep of Ayden-Grifton on Monday in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference contest.

Kayla Myers served on 11 points with four aces and three digs for North Duplin, while teammate Sam Cates served on 12 points with four aces. Heather Hudson had four service points and four kills, and Jessica Pridgen notched five kills and served on five points.

The Rebels host Rosewood on Thursday.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood didn't lose a set in its 6-0 win over Spring Creek at the Gators' courts on Tuesday.

The Eagles remain perfect in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play with a 5-0 mark heading into today's match at James Kenan. The Gators (1-3 Carolina) make the short trip today to Mount Olive College to face Southern Wayne in a non-conference double-header.

In singles, Kayce Brantham, Sidney Worrell, Missy Bailey, Erica Nichols, Jamie Andrews and Jillian Casey emerged with straight set wins. Doubles were not contested.

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock lost just one set in a 9-0 sweep at home over Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons (9-1, 4-0 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) have now won 286 straight matches in ECC play, heading into today's make-up match at home against Eastern Wayne. Southern Wayne (1-3 ECC) travels to Eastern Wayne on Thursday.

Raychel Batts, Carlyn Claiborne, Nicole Taylor, Laine Purcell, Lizzie Sodoma and Kristen Prosser won in singles for Aycock, while the doubles teams of Claiborne-Purcell, Taylor-Sodoma and Prosser-Kristen Perry helped finish off the sweep.

Southern Wayne's Tara Hirsch took one set from Taylor in No. 3 singles, but Taylor rallied back to win 6-4, 7-3.

Eastern Wayne turned in an impressive, 9-0 win at home over Kinston on Monday.

The Warriors did not lose a set in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match as Lauren Bynum, Ashley Smith, Brandi Butts, Cassie Musgrave, Mollie Musgrave and Nicole Fine cruised to singles wins. In doubles, the combinations of Smith-Butts, Bynum-C. Musgrave and M. Musgrave-Kari Burnette lost just three games combined.

The Warriors will complete a suspended match at Charles B. Aycock today.

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central didn't lose a game in seven contested matches and won two by default in a 9-0 win over Farmville Central in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action on Tuesday.

The win improves the Rams (13-1 overall) to 5-0 in league play heading into Thursday's match at North Pitt. The Jaguars exited at 1-2 overall and in the EPC.

Christi Murphy, Ashley Harrell, Michelle Jernigan, Brittany Horton, Elizabeth Cooper and Meredith Rouse emerged with singles wins for Greene Central. In doubles, the combinations of Rouse-Horton, Jernigan-Cooper and Murphy-Harrell emerged with victories.

Sarah Corley, Emily Northington, Minerva Rodriguez, Kelsi Yates, Kate Brantley and Hallie Hulse claimed singles wins for the Warriors as the combinations of Corley-Yates, Holland-Meischner and Brantley-Northington won in doubles.

Eastern Wayne, which lost just four games overall to Community, returns to action today against Charles B. Aycock.

HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day's road match at Kerr-Vance was tied at 1-1 when lightning halted, then eventually stopped play in Vance County on Tuesday.

Sam Steed scored the Chargers' lone goal to put his team up 1-0, four minutes into the game. Kerr-Vance equalized nine minutes later.

Since the game reached halftime, it will go down as a tie.

The Chargers host Flora MacDonald today in non-conference action.

Eastern Wayne soccer 6, Norwayne 6 -- Norwayne's Tyler Ruffin had five goals and one assist, while Ryan Bunn posted one goal. David Burke and Thomas Oliver added one assist for the Cobras (0-0-1). Eastern Wayne's Eric Suncin notched four goals and Leslie Cox contributed two goals. Sang Kim, Jose Ponce and Nicholas Bowden had one assist each for the Warriors (1-0-1).
