PRINCETON -- Princeton rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat previously-unbeaten Spring Creek 23-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-2, while the Gators exited 6-1.

"We came out the first two games playing scared," said second-year Princeton coach Trudy Rast. "We pulled it together the last three games to pull off the win. We really built up our momentum and never gave up in the last three games.

"Everyone played together and worked hard."

Stephanie Daughtry and Sarah Gibbs each had 10 kills for the Bulldogs, while Kaitlyn Haddock added nine kills and a team-high eight digs. Cynthia Peedin contributed six kills.

"Kaitlyn played an excellent game," said Rast. "She really stepped up and made a huge difference in the game."

Brittany Davis dished out a match-high 18 assists. Brittany Rose added 15 assists.

Princeton is the guest of North Duplin on Thursday.

Bruins upend

Golden Falcons

WILSON -- Beddingfield tallied 21 consecutive points on serve during one stretch of its 25-11, 25-8, 25-19 victory over Charles B. Aycock in the Eastern Carolina 3-A opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon.

The Bruins scored the last nine points of the opening set and raced to a 12-0 lead in the second set. They remained unbeaten in 10 outings, while the Golden Falcons dropped to 4-2.

Jazzmine Lee led Aycock with seven kills. Rusti Talton served four aces.

The Golden Falcons entertain Kinston at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Eagles collect

Carolina 1-A win

LITTLEFIELD -- Kasie Braswell delivered a career-high 10 kills in Rosewood's come-from-behind 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 victory over Ayden-Grifton in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

The Eagles climbed to 8-0 overall.

"We overcame losing game one ... had great focus (late)," said Rosewood coach Jennifer Cochran. "I am so proud of them."

Braswell dished out three assists and collected five digs defensively. Frontline mate Courtney Hill contributed a match-high nine blocks, five kills, four assists and four digs.

Abigail Barrow dished out 15 assists.

Kasey Grey added three blocks. Stephanie Rhodes registered four kills, four digs and two blocks. Clare Narron chipped in three kills, seven digs and two aces.

Barrow provided 10 assists in Monday's 25-14, 25-20, 25-12 non-conference victory over North Lenoir. Hill served on 10 points and added seven kills and five aces. Narron served on nine points with three digs and two kills.

Grey and Rhodes combined for 13 blocks.

Rosewood entertains North Johnston at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Saints capture

first win of year

DUDLEY -- Clarice Sherard delivered the game-winning kill in Southern Wayne's 25-23, 26-24 triumph against archrival Eastern Wayne in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both teams Tuesday.

The Saints snapped a four-game skid and improved to 1-4 overall.

"We have been playing very hard lately," said Southern Wayne coach Clifton Broadhurst.

Sherard, Haley Geitsler, Morgan Davis, Marketta Bizzell, Hannah McArthur and Lidija Selmovic -- all starters -- played the entire match. Broadhurst also cited the defensive play of Darnisha Williams.

Southern Wayne entertains Wilson Beddingfield at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Eagles falter

in league play

LITTLEFIELD -- Ayden-Grifton dropped the opening set, but rebounded for a 19-25, 25-16, 25-14 win over Rosewood in the Carolina 1-A Conference opener for both teams Tuesday.

Ashley Williams led the Eagles with three kills.

Caroline Tart and Carrisa Morrison dished out three and two assists, respectively.

Rosewood (2-6) entertains North Johnston at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

lead E. Wayne to wins

PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Michael Lawrence and Helen Baddour emerged the top runners in a three-team Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet Tuesday afternoon at Charles B. Aycock.

Lawrence ran the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 13 seconds to lead the Warriors to a scant 25-30 victory over the host Golden Falcons. The Bruins finished third with 83 points.

Aycock's Alan Toler claimed second in 19:26. The Warriors' Joey Burridge ended up third in 19:56 followed by Golden Falcon runners Dalton Denning and Daniel Pennington.

Levi Holloman paced the Bruins with a 13th-place time of 22:02.

Baddour and Aycock's Rebekka Katko finished within 11 seconds apart during the girls' portion of the meet. The Warriors' Natalie Taylor (24:50) and Lyddia Hirschy (25:59) wound up third and fifth, respectively.

The Golden Falcons' Danielle Sealey claimed fourth in 25:40.

Eastern Wayne's boys remained unbeaten in the ECC (4-0) and rose to 4-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Warrior girls (3-1) climbed to 2-1 against conference opposition.

The Warriors return to action Saturday in the Wolfpack Invitational at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary. The meet begins at 10 a.m.

Stephen Marshal and Freddy Ignot each notched a natural hat trick (three consecutive goals) in Faith Christian's 7-2 conquest of Liberty Christian-Durham on Tuesday afternoon.

Marshal recorded his hat trick and one assist in the opening half. Meanwhile, Ignot earned his hat trick in the second half.

Aaron Sladick chipped in one goal.

Seven players each recorded one assist for Faith Christian, which claimed its second consecutive victory.

Keeper John Zeigler had nine saves in goal.

The Conquerors (2-3) travel to Mt. Calvary next Tuesday for a N.C. Christian Schools Association contest.

Warriors claim

ECC 3-A match

Eastern Wayne captured two key doubles victories and eased past Wilson Beddingfield 6-3 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match contested Tuesday afternoon at Wayne Community College.

The Warriors' No. 2 tandem of Lauren Bynum-Casie Musgrave remained unbeaten in three ECC outings with an 8-4 victory. Teammates Mollie Musgrave and Sami Abrahamson, the No. 3 seed, posted a shutout.

The Musgraves, third-seeded Brandi Butts and sixth-seeded Nicole Fine each collected a singles win.

Eastern Wayne (4-3, 2-1 ECC) travels to county rival C.B. Aycock on Thursday.

Beddingfield fell to 0-3 in the ECC.

throttles Hunt

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock claimed its 285th consecutive league victory with an 8-1 conquest of Eastern Carolina 3-A newcomer Wilson Hunt on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons (8-1, 3-0) claimed sole possession of the league lead and knocked the Warriors (2-1 ECC) from the unbeaten ranks.

"Today's match was a big conference win," said veteran Aycock coach Luke Vail. "We played well in both singles and doubles. I was especially pleased with our intensity and concentration in doubles."

Raychel Batts, Carlyn Claiborne, Nicole Taylor, Laine Purcell and Kristen Prosser each picked up a straight-set singles win. Prosser lost just one game, while Claiborne and Taylor each lost two games.

Aycock's home match today with Wilson Fike has been canceled due to Hurricane Ophelia. No make-up date has been announced.

The Golden Falcons entertain county rival Eastern Wayne at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Ashley Harrell, Michelle Jernigan, Brittany Horton and Elizabeth Cooper each posted a shutout in singles.

The No. 1 doubles of Meredith Rouse-Christi Murphy prevailed 8-0.

"We have a big Eastern Plains Conference match coming up Thursday," said Rams coach Donald Clark, whose team entertains Tarboro. "This matchup may be between the two best teams to ever square off against each other in our conference."

It is a rematch of last year's N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A eastern regional dual-team championship, won by Greene Central.

The teams played eight-game pro sets on the Warriors' courts.

Mary West, Bianca Wall, Chris Hoeper, Catie Fairchild and Allesa Watkins each picked up a singles win for the Eagles -- members of the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference in the independent school ranks.

Watkins and teammate Stacy McCoy won at No. 2 doubles.

Top-seeded Lindsay Frederick earned the Warriors' lone singles victory.

The tandems of Frederick-Elizabeth Borden and Emily Northington-Kelsi Yates each won in doubles for Eastern Wayne.
