ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.

Roanoke Rapids was well aware of what happened last week when they let a 28-6 halftime lead become a 42-36 loss to Pasquotank, and they were determined to not let it happen again.

Ahead 24-6 at the break, the Jackets tacked on two more scores in the second half of a 38-12 defeat of Rosewood Friday night.

The Jackets improved to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 at Hoyle Field, while Rosewood dropped to 0-3.

After marching all the way down to the Rosewood 8-yard line on their second possession of the game, Jackets running back Louis Chetty was tackled for a loss of nine yards. On third down and goal, the senior bobbled a sure touchdown pass from quarterback Trase Jones. Jones booted a 34-yard field

goal on fourth down to put the Jackets ahead 3-0 early.

The Eagles responded in the second quarter.

After an illegal procedure penalty placed them on their own 15-yard line on first down, Rosewood's Brantley Ellis found Josh Myers down the seam of the secondary for a 85-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good, and the Eagles were ahead 6-3 with 9:45 remaining before halftime.

Chetty redeemed himself when he answered on the following series with a 25-yard touchdown scant. Brandon Robinson (19 carries, 173 yards) ran for a 46-yard TD with 2:40 to go in the second, then Jones found Josh Lawrence for a 35-yard touchdown reception with just 18 seconds left. Jones added the extra point to give the Jackets their 18-point halftime advantage.

Roanoke Rapids didn't take long to tally again. Robinson ran for his second 40-plus yard touchdown of the night, scoring on a 47-yarder with 6:22 to go in the third. Chetty had a 41-yard scamper for another score with 7:46 remaining in the game. Jones kicked the last of his four extra point attempts on the night to round out the Jackets' scoring.

Ellis tallied on a 1-yard QB sneak for Rosewood with 1:13 left.

The teams the Jackets have defeated this season have a combined record of 0-5.

Chetty (four tackles) ran for 109 yards on 10 carries. Freshman Deunta Squire had three carries for 51 yards and Wendy Sledge added 25 yards on four carries.

Greg Ashe led the Roanoke Rapids defense with nine tackles. Terrence Porter made seven and Jereme Brown had five. Lawrence had three. Damian Thomas and Kevin Broadnax both had four.

Roanoke Rapids visits Tarboro next week. The Eagles are off on Friday and return to action at Midway on Sept. 23.
